Caustic Arrow / Caustic ground and bow damage
Hello, I was wondering if bow damage has an influence in caustic ground and so the crit.
On poe wiki, it says : The amount of damage per second inflicted by caustic ground depends on its source. Does it mean that the more damage I have with the first hit, the more damage I do with caustic ground? So doing crit caustic arrow can work? " What wiki says this? Because the gamepedia has nothing like that https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Caustic_Arrow That aside the answer to all your questions is no the bows damage/crit will only affect the actual hit of the arrow. The DoT is only affected by chaos damage, chaos DoT multi, Dot modifiers, projectile damage modifiers(skill gem specifies this), area damage modifiers. |

It has if you clic on the "caustic ground" of the wiki.
The gem itself does not say anything about how the caustic ground is affected. https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Caustic_ground Last edited by valbanil#6578 on Mar 25, 2020, 3:58:16 PM

But the entire point of the caustic ground page is that it is a damage source that can come from multiple different sources other than just caustic arrow. So the damage depends on the source the caustic ground is coming from, in this case its from the caustic arrow gem. That line means nothing other than that.
And the gamepedia for the skill does explain Conc effect scaling it and projectile damage scaling it. The only thing it leaves out is base type scaling like the chaos and DoT which are commonly known once someone gets used to the game's base mechanics for scaling. Looked at your character, you may want to look into other Caustic arrow builds to get a feel for how they scale the damage. Using poison support is kind of odd unless you plan on going for an actual attack build with poison (but at that point I'm not sure worrying about the ground affect would matter entirely)
If you specifically want to scale the caustic ground drill neck and death harp don't do anything for your damage. Also most of the "Bow damage" passives on the passive tree also come with the modifier "Increased Damage Over Time With Bow Skills" which lets those nodes affect the caustic ground DoT (The Hunter's Gambit cluster is really good for this) |

I'm leveling the char, death harp is just for the extra arrow (clear speed), lesser poison for more damage on boss but that was temporary I removed it, drill neck when it pierce it adds more caustic ground for clear speed aswell.
I'll go for +# gem lvl bow and for the quiver still pierce but with some % res. As for Hunter's gambit it was planned but I took large jewel socket with unwaveringly evil, unholy geace, wicked pall before. But thanks for the advice anyway, I just didn't know for the caustic ground if the initial hit affected it or not. (English is not my native language aswell I'm still learning) Last edited by valbanil#6578 on Mar 25, 2020, 5:29:27 PM

No worries, though just to note Drill neck does not affect the caustic ground
The modifier on it is "Arrows deal 50% increased Damage with Hits and Ailments to Targets they Pierce" The caustic ground does not hit and is not considered an ailment so it doesn't get damage from the modifier so any rare penetrating quiver would be more worthwhile, even the pierce support would give damage and pierce or you could pick up the +2 pierce from the passive tree; lot of options Last edited by IonDrako#4482 on Mar 25, 2020, 5:34:17 PM
