Frame-rate spikes and drive usage
I have frequent unplayable frame-rate spikes. These spikes are most common when loading new assets, especially conqueror/betrayal encounters. I have noticed that these frame-rate spikes correlate with lots of activity on my storage HDD D:/ drive (as measured by task manager).
This is very confusing because my game is installed on an SSD C:/ drive. Is there a way for me to move all POE assets onto my SSD drive so that it does not have to use my HDD? The only POE assets I can find on my HDD are in Documents/My Games/Path of Exile. I'm wondering if shaders are also being stored on my storage drive for no reason, considering the shader problems lately. Last bumped on Mar 24, 2020, 2:02:37 PM

" C:/ is my SSD. Windows and POE are installed on the SSD. It's the files that get stored under Documents that are on the wrong drive. I don't want to move ALL of my documents to C:/. That's why they're on the storage drive in the first place. I just want to move the POE folder. Last edited by apetrock#6132 on Mar 23, 2020, 5:21:21 PM

" Ah now I get it. Yeah sorry, you can't do that since the "documents" are a system folder and since you told the system it was moved to a other drive, then PoE will use it on that location..... |

The POE files in my documents contains :
- the minimap cache - cache for the daily deals/store images but it's less important. - POE's options and loot filters. - Screenshots The minimap files are very small, and i think they are only used when entering a zone (i've monitored POE's file access some time ago). Perhaps, you have the windows pagefile on your HDD instead of your SSD ? (look for a file named pagefile.sys at the root of your drive) Last edited by MrVaad#4008 on Mar 24, 2020, 3:36:21 AM

" YOOO this fixed all my issues! I knew the poe folder was unlikely the problem, but there was something dumb going on with the storage drive. Thank you! Reference for other people: 1. In the Windows start menu, search for "view advanced system settings" 2. In "performance" click on settings 3. New window pop up, advanced tab, virtual memory click "change" 4. Click on your SSD in the list of drives, click "system managed" and click set. Make sure you unset the HDD if necessary. 5. Game runs like butter. |
