Noob questions on Gem Links
Apologies in advance... probably best to ask this by an example.
Suppose I have a 3L item. Red-Blue-Green in that order. Question 1: I want to put in 2 linked gems, one Red, one green. If I put them in this item does it count as linked, even though the blue socket is in between the red/green gems and has nothing in it? Question 2: Supposing the above works ok, now... Suppose I want to use the blue slot for something completely unrelated to the red-green gem link-up (maybe I just want to level up the blue gem, or maybe it's a a gem that needs no support). So... If I stick a blue gem in that slot, will the red-green combo still work? Will the blue gem work ok? Thanks in advance. Last bumped on Mar 18, 2020, 3:55:21 PM

Question 1:
Yes, linked sockets are always linked, no matter what order or if they are empty or not. Also if you have 2 active skillgems and 1 support gem linked, both active skills will be affected by the support. Question 2: Yes that works, but make sure its actually unrelated. For example if u socket a blue support gem it will most likely increase the mana cost of any active skilgem its linked to. Also if you link certain gems with Auras it will increase the mana reserved, even if the gem doesnt actually do anything. But they are many combos that are safe to use^^ Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

" There's two ways you can easily check if gems are linked properly. 1) When you mouse over a socketed gem, any supports that the game considers properly linked to it, and valid for supporting that skill gem, will highlight. Just move the mouse cursor on and off a socketed skill gem and you will see the working supports flash. 2) The shortcut icon, where you pick what key or mouse button it is bound to adds a single letter for each support currently linked to that skill. For example, if you bind the skill "Flame Dash" to the 'R' key, and it is supported by "Faster Casting" and "Arcane Surge" gems, the icon in the bottom right of your screen will have a big 'R' in the bottom left to indicate the key, and a small 'f' in the upper right to indicate "Faster Casting" is properly bound, and a capital "N" just below the 'f' to indicate "Arcane Surge" is supporting it. |
