Awakened gems level 6 working as level 5?

I just got an Awakened Void Manipulation Gem level 6 and it is giving me the same amount of Chaos Damage.
Comparing this to the Non-Awakened Void manipulation, I'm assuming that level 1 Awakened gems are iqual to normal level 21 gems, if that's the case, level 8 Awakened should be a level 28 normal gem and level 9 Awakened gem should be a level 29 normal gem, which has a 1% increase in damage.
What am I missing here?

The per level progression of a gem and its awakened version isn't always defined the same way, so trying to find a relation isn't exactly a good idea.
In the case of Awakened Void Manipulation Support, it reaches 47% more chaos damage only at level 10, and i'm afraid there's not much you can do about it.
