how are people anointing talismans?

Since they come corrupted and you can't anoint them how are they doing it?

you can make a normal amulet into a talisman by way of Jorgin in Research.
its a great craft. can have some nutty outcomes |

Wasn't there some way to use the 5:1 vendor recipe to pull this off? Or am I thinking of something else?
