"Root of the Problem" quest log text shows incorrectly

I have obtained Maligaro's Spike and the Baleful Gem in Cruel difficulty.

When in a Cruel difficulty town, my quest log correctly states to use the gem and Maligaro's Spike to destroy the tree roots.

However, when in Lioneye's Watch in Normal difficulty, the quest log says that I should obtain the Baleful Gem from the Chamber of Sins, even though I already have it.
