need help with my 60 templar (currently dual spork)

Before my wall o' text, here's my TL;DR: I'd like advice on whether to stick with dual totem or respec around a different skill choice, and advice on what gear upgrades to focus on.

I got this Templar to Merciless as a Freezing Pulse + LMP spammer, with the intention of converting to something else later on. Getting up close and personal for maximum FP damage was starting to feel very risky and gear-dependent. This is my first HC character to 60 since OB started, so all his gear is self-found or a cheap trade purchase (I'm pretty poor, maybe 1.5 exalts worth of currency), and most is not very good right now.

I made the switch to dual totem with Spark + Fork, but I'm starting to think that was a mistake. My clear speeds are pretty bad even farming Ledge, and I don't dare try on-level content. I know I need better gear before I progress much farther - for one thing, my resists aren't maxed. For another, I don't even have the right color 4L to use spork properly, so I've got Item Quantity as my 4th gem instead of Lightning Pen.

However, I don't want to start spending what little currency I have on gear until I'm sure about my build. It would only cost a few Regrets to spec out of everything that is specific to Spork Totem, but I'm not sure if my choice of skills is part of the problem or if I just need to get my gear up to par and stick with it. I kinda like the dual totem playstyle, and I read that it's not too gear dependent overall, but the damage output is so bad that I'm not sure if a better wand and linking up Lighting Pen will be enough to fix it.

My defenses are also kind of a mess... I'm stacking lots of +life which is getting me by so far, and I plan to get my resists up to 80/80/80 ASAP, but I'm not sure about armor stats. I'm using a little ES and a lot of Armor at the moment, and the Body and Soul cluster by the Templar starting area. I run both Determination and Discipline. Should I focus on pure armor, keep some ES, or do something else entirely? I don't feel too squishy right now, aside from my bad resists, but I also don't have any idea what I want my armor stats to look like for the maps endgame.

I've thought about going back to FP (but I worry about face tanking mobs), or maybe transitioning to an EK build - got a few +ele damage nodes that would be a mild pain to respec out of but other than that, I'm in decent shape to do so. I'm open to other options, though.

So again, long story short: should I respec or stick with dual totem, and what gear upgrades should I prioritize?

edit2: as you may have noticed, I have an unconnected Lightning Pen gem (leveling it for when I can connect it to Spark), and 2 auras without any items or passives that let me use both (I mostly use Conductivity, been trying out Projectile Weakness for the lulz).

Update: I'm 62 now. Took a +30 Dex node so I could swap out my ammy without de-leveling gems, and I have 2 points unspent now. Replaced my chest piece with one that gives the link colors I need, so I can use Lightning Penetration now, and got less awful jewelry.



Top priorities gear-wise now are to get better jewelry, and a decent wand/caster dagger. Still not sure about dual spork, but I'm leaning toward sticking with it. Would still appreciate build advice.
