PoE 2 Tabula Rasa Rework

So I saw the new version of Tabula Rasa for the PoE 2 reworked socket system when they showed it during the livestream.

I have to say that I don't agree with the version put forth.

The new Tabula has 3 white skill sockets instead of 2 colored sockets and, like the original, no stats.

With the new system having the gems be the 6-links this Tabula is less useful than wearing a regular chest with stats plus an unset ring. You can always roll the colors you want/need if you even need to change socket colors at that point. You're probably not going to be using more than a handful of skills before endgame, and that's easily covered by weapon sockets and gloves/boots.
I see no real value in the new version of Tabula. It may have been useful for aura bots to get an extra skill slot beyond having 2 unset rings, but you can put multiple auras into one skill slot via the new gem type so you really shouldn't need extra slot.

The whole point of current Tabula is getting an easy 6 link skill very early on for leveling power while sacrificing any stats you would get with a regular chest because 6 links is more important. People have even completed endgame wearing Tabula because you can make up for the lack of stats with other gear. Or, getting a legitimate 6L with useful stats is an absolute chore so they just ignore it.

Here's my proposition. Maintain the current state of Tabula Rasa.

Done. Still useful, and you're trading the stats and a skill socket for a white 6L before 6L would normally be available. Then you can switch to a better chest after lvl 50ish (iLvL 50 was shown as the minimum level for 6L gems) once you start getting your actual 6L gems.

Tabula rasa was too cheap anyway imho.

One thing that concerns me a bit though is the loss of one source of divine orbs :(


Your suggestion makes sense though, only we don't know if it would be technically worth implementing / realistic to expect.


PS : not all gems will have 5 sockets with them right ? In some videos you can clearly see that early gems don't, do we need to roll jeweller's orbs on the gems ?

they should just delete that junk.. it was ok back when people were founding like 3 uniques/hour AND it was considered as suicide if worn on merciless HC.

I'm not sure if ANY skill can be 6-linked, but for sure all of the attacks/spells can be. Meta Gems like Cast on Crit will of course be able to reach full sockets, but I'm not sure about the ones you slot multiple auras into. They should imo, would just be up to the player to build enough reduced mana reserve to actually be able to activate them.

As for the early gems not having the sockets, I mentioned that in my post. One of the panels from Exilecon showed a table with the item levels for when gems can get X# of sockets, just like armor and weapons have item level thresholds to get 5/6 sockets in the current system. For the new system, full 6 socket was iLvl 50+ (subject to change) on the table, I don't remember the lower levels.

That's the point of tabula granting them 6 sockets while in it.
They already have it so if you remove a skill gem it drops all socketed supports into your inventory. That could also be reused to remove the supports if you try to put the gem in another slot if the gem doesn't have the sockets to match the supports added to it when it was in tabula.

Keep in mind that all of a gem's sockets are linked by default in the new system. That one 6-link isn't as potent in the new system as it was in the old.

Well, if they're not going to keep its current functionality then they may as well. New one looks meh.
I'm pretty sure I see more than 3 uniques drop per hour most days, though it's usually all junk. And HC IS suicide. Moot point.

Yepp, that version I have a use for!

Practically everyone was using tabula for leveling (means that it was badly designed)

Now hopefully people will make use of other leveling unique armours.
