4.0 Socket system rework is about pvp.
It makes low level cutthroat less items-dependent. You are still forced to have a backup items set but losing your 4-link is not "game over" anymore. it slightly reducing sokets-links starvation on a high-level build. (I hope so) 3.9 bow things are all about pvp, just check the gems, the whine "bows are the best but very pricey" is not valid anymore. and about pvp: GGG is obviously preparing to compete with Diablo 4 in the future. Would investing in pvp bring more players and more popularity to the game? I don't think so. There is no indicator of such positive outcome in the community's complaints or demands right now. If D4 team will implement a good pvp option to the game, we'll see kick-ass pvp in poe too.
