Automatic periodic cleanup of the temporary data files - "MOTDCache" and "Minimap"
For those of you who don't know, there are two PoE folders (usually) located in C:\Users\[username]\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile titled "MOTDCache" and "Minimap". This is the same folder where your screenshot folder and your loot filter files are typically placed as well.
These two folders contain the temporary files for daily news splash updates/links on the load screen, as well as the temporary instance file for every single instance you join. The thing is, the game keeps these forever even though there's no instance that will ever last that long or daily news update that needs to be kept for that time. Now, every time you load the game, for whatever reason, PoE loads or checks every one of those files. So for those of you who have trouble logging on - HDD users especially, but even SSD users too - one of the quickest fixes is to completely empty those folders. What boggles my mind is that this is a problem that goes back to at least 2015 based on old forum threads describing the same issue (and solution!) over and over. It's been FIVE YEARS or more! Knowing this is a problem, I'll go in and delete the files manually from time to time. But after doing so today again, I have to ask: Why is a simple cleanup of these useless temporary files still not a part of the game? How many people has this game lost simply because they got sick and tired of the simple act of logging in being a problem, with no idea why it was happening? We'll never know, but I'll bet it's not zero. Please GGG, if you can't make the engine ignore older files when loading, can you finally implement a small cleanup function to delete any week-old temporary files? I might be able to work around this but there's no reason any of us should. Last bumped on Nov 7, 2019, 11:34:32 AM

Add to the list that all game data is storred in a single file and even the tiny 10 MB sized update forces a FULL rewrite of more than 20 GB aging every players HDD/SSD one every patch provided. (Not talking about the fact that I need twice of the games actual diskspace on updates.) It is 2019, GGG...

" That's a STEAM' issue. Standalone client doesn't "fully rewrite 20+ GB file", it "patches files inside .ggpk" Remember, suffering is convenient.
That is why many people prefer it. Happiness requires effort. |

" Actually, I never used the standalone client. But yes, you are right. There is still a big fragmentation going on there, but who cares about fragmentation in the age of SSD...(well STEAM does for some reason) Thenagain, there is no need to store all game data in a single file anymore. Please give some love to steam-based clients... :) Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.

I have Minimap files from 2012. Thanks for the tip, 120MB cleared.
