Builds for Oni-Goroshi?

I am a masochist, so next League I am gonna grind for an Oni-Goroshi for the first melee build I have ever done. "But it is easier to buy it later!" is an excellent, accurate point. Please refer to the "I am a masochist" part :)

What type of characters work best with Oni-Goroshi? I know that I could essentially take any melee build and just throw an Oni at it but that doesn't interest me as much as playing something that had Oni in mind from the beginning.

Any suggestions?

i ran an oni-goroshi build as my league starter in blight SSF. my idea was to do a tanky berserker build.

i used consecrated path as the main skill for a number of reasons.
1) it is IMO one of the best melee skills right now because it blinks to the enemy. you do not need to worry about getting nuked on your way to deal damage/leech etc.
2) its AoE. aoe is very important part of quick clearing, and aoe just has great scaling in general
3) it drops consecrated path which gives you 6% life regen, which really helps in combating the degen from the sword
4) fire skill. important for the sword so that you can ignite and keep the buff up 100% of the time

my concept for the build was to get the ascendancy node War Bringer, which was recently buffed pretty well, in order to spam Enduring Cry for endurance charges, the regen from enduring cry itself, and for the heal from war bringer.
i was also going to couple this with the prophecy upgraded helmet of Deidbellow but i haven't been able to get that prophecy yet.

the build worked out AMAZING. i did not remotely optimize it, as i abandoned it upon the feeling it would have difficulty clearing blighted maps, but it is definitely a build i will revisit in future leagues with mechanics more friendly to the melee playstyle.

the build was fast, tanky, great sustain, and amazing damage. especially as SSF.

A quick look at poe.ninja shows Tectonic Slam Juggs to be pretty popular with Oni. The tankyness and regen that comes from Jugg/Endurance Charges counters the degen from the sword. Looks like most people use Ancestral Warchief + Combustion Support to proc the buff consistently.

I also have a Juggernaut (Tectonic Slam) equipped with Oni-Goroshi

Have fun farming Oni-Goroshi. It's a pain but really worth it :-)

Chieftain doesn't get a lot of love, but the new (last league) ascendancy is fun, and it works great with Oni. I did a Consecrated Path Oni Chieftain last league, and it's exactly as xMustard experienced with his Berserker.

Like xMustard, I used it with Consecrated Path, imho one of the best combos with Oni, but I followed a different path; I took it in Legion up to level 95, and was one of the smoothest melee characters I played (felt even better than Cyclone in Legion!).
You just have to get used to the flicker style of game, but that is another pro for the skill.

The build I did was a Juggernaut with 7 End Charges, 90% phys damage reduction, 1k life regen and using Avataor of Fire using Xoph's Blood, with an effective crit chance of 81%.
It dished out 6M shaper dps (that was in the end, with all min/maxes possible, although 4-5M was easy attainable; if you somehow add in the skitterbots that where not there in Legion, you probably woudl go upto 8M) and with the last upgrade (corrupted Xoph's with fire life leech), you just stomp through content.
Can give some tips if you are interested in that build, was really fun!

At the other end, I had just under 2M with the Chieftain on basically SSF gear and no serious crafting. I'm sure you could do that on a Jugg as well.

There is some good stuff in that guide. It was one of several I used in putting together my Oni Chieftain.

Something to be aware of is that Multistrike burns endurance charges really fast for some extra damage with Tectonic Slam, so you're trading defense for offense. That was the main reason I switched from TS to Consecrated Path, but it totally depends on how that trade-off feels to you.
