What about a character editor/creator for a big future update?
It's a rather unimportant feature for most players and should most certainly not be the top priority over making the game more stable and thus more enjoyable, but:
I always wanted to see a different way of customizing your character in different ways than just throwing MTX on them and although that works, I would REALLY like to see a character creator. From what I've seen the story of "exile" is very generalized throughout the game, no matter which character you pick, the only thing that changes is their individual back story which only really gets mentioned on the game wiki and at the very beginning when naming the exile. By giving the player the option to create their own exile the individual backstories will most likely drop off but nothing would change throughout the game itself, people will still refer to players as "exile" so, except the writing work from years ago, nothing too important would go missing. Now, I am aware that not everyone is interested or willing to spend a few minutes fully customizing their character upon creation, so what I had in mind was simply to give us the option to pick our class, as usual, but ontop of that add an option to edit the character model. This way the basic exile models we know today would remain within the game, with the added option of editing their looks to our absolute liking, additionally speed runners and the like still get to just jump into gameplay immedietely without having to bother with customization. Games should provide a default model so that character creation is ALWAYS an optional process. As for the creation itself I do not expect millions of sliders and a variety of hundreds of hairstyles, eye styles, skin features, etc. (no "code-veining" needed) although I would appreciate simple things such as: - Gender - Hairstyles and color - Skin color - Eye color (and shape) - Height/Weight Optionally, to add to the overall figure-editing, it would be nice to have sliders for: - Masculinity/Waist/Shoulders - Bust - Default clothing Additionally I was thinking that maybe once the player reaches the Epilogue (act 11) there could be a new NPC, some kind of surgeon, or doctor who allowed players to re-customize their character without having to create a new one entirely, this could either be done for free or at a cost of ingame currency... maybe this customization could instead be done when talking to Navali for a price in silver coins. 2 things: - I know that the game is based around creating many different characters and getting a new experience each time using different builds and ascendancies. Some people just prefer playing one single character "forever" and instead of creating a new one simply respecing all their current points if they wanted to try a different route. - I know that this isn't all too realistic or fitting to have in a game like PoE, but if we have a character editor we might aswell make use of it at the endgame aswell. PLUS it would add a big unique factor to the very final town in game, which I think would just be a nice touch. I am sure that implementing a feature such as this one is a ton of work, possibly having to create a new system to make armors adjust to the way a character looks, specifically if they are rather heavy or thin. I do not expect to see a feature like this any time soon, just knowing that it is on the list of considerable additions would be incredible. I am sure that a lot of players will not take great advantage from a character creation feature but I know for a fact that there is atleast a couple thousand people that can really sit down and appreciate the small details of the game hidden all around the place. And that is the kind of playerbase a feature like this would be dedicated to.
Spoiler
Just a random side thought that came to mind while imagining this feature:
A risk this feature might bring is people creating ridiculously oversexualized and generally inappropriate characters that they share online which non-poe-players then see and instantly associate with the game, giving it a bad reputation. Although a similar issue can already be found in the game with certain hideouts. Last edited by CreatorXM#5044 on Oct 29, 2019, 5:19:08 PM Last bumped on Oct 26, 2019, 4:00:21 PM
