I'm also thinking about building a RoA ranger that would be pure physical crit build but the problem is physical reflect as you can easily get oneshoted. I'm thinking going something like this. I hope someone more experienced can input some useful ideas around this build.

I've seen a couple of pretty good RoA builds, just need to do some searching! I'd like to note that physical and crit have no real synergy, imho it's a very bad idea. If you like the idea of crits, go elemental because those do interact well. (crit=status ailment)
Secondly don't think of physical/elemental in terms of active skills. Imho the difference is what BASE your damage is coming from. I think the basic passive tree-line would be something like this: You can pick more hp/more int/more dmg whatever you want to somewhat personalize it. I do like to note that it would be more efficient to either start from marauder or templar. I don't really like those 4 evasion nodes at the ranger start. The advantage of starting as a ranger is you could have some easy extra damage from the starting area. (and you can actually use bows straight away lol, which takes some time if you're starting as mara/templar) Why take so many ele nodes and no phys dmg nodes? Because in the later stages of the game, a big part of your damage will be elemental eventhough you are using a physical base/skill. The skill gem basis would be: RoA/added fire dmg/weapon elemental dmg/concentrated effect. You want to use a high phys bow and probably a blackgleam quiver. I haven't really played the build but I estimate it shouldn't have problems with reflect since you are doing phys/ele dmg. I can hear you think: "But if we're doing a lot of elemental damage, we can use crits!". Imho it's still not really worth it since we'd do burning dmg, which pales in comparison to freeze/shock. In general the way crit works, it has the greatest synergy with spells or wands. Wands have a high crit base, spells can never miss. (For an attack to crit it needs to pass the mobs evasion twice. Once to actually hit it and then once more for it to actually crit. It's explained in the mechanics thread somewhere if you're interested.) my 2 cents edit: Actually was just checking nugi's new passives out randomly and saw it's pretty much the same passive tree lol. If you get more familiar with the game, you'll realize there's only a few paths worth taking on the passive tree. When it comes to builds, it's often more defined by skill gems and gear than passives. You could easily make that build into a groundslam/cleave/whatever build just by switching a couple of nodes around. In general when making a build: First pick your skillgems and weapon, they will define the details of the passive build. Last edited by Icecreamcart#0654 on Mar 17, 2013, 3:40:23 PM
