I'm a kiwi living in the states
and by god I love this game. There are so many simple things a kiwi would see that NOBODY in the states would understand. Simple things like the names of creatures tot he arm tatt on the mauderer.
I spent countless hours on diablo and found out about this beauty, was going to donate 100 but didnt want to push shipping fees on this already awesome team. And if I had 1000 to give freely, I would. Great game, cannot wait for the final product! |

Seconded. Being Australian, my Kiwi knowledge is probably not much deeper than an unusual love for 'Once Were Warriors', a real admiration for the Haka (we Aussies dig it, seriously) and a healthy dislike of the All-Blacks...but given some of the item names and the Rhoa birds, I'd probably pick the influence. It's so unique and so very awesome.
And if you'd asked me before what a slightly NZ-flavoured Diablo game would be like, I'd have snorted in derision. I'm glad no one asked me that before I found Path of Exile. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" I hate that you donated 1,000 xD Good job on supporting an awesome game. Strange thing is I have 2 australian friends here too. We butt heads but Aus and NZ are closer than america is with any country :P I am excited to see some other refrences thrown in, be it the haka... and item called the silver fern or something unique and interesting. There is a town in NZ called "Waikikamukau" which is said - why kick a moo cow. Would be funny to how a cow monster called that in refrence to BOTH diablo, and NZ at the same time ;) I have hundreds of ideas, but thats all they are ideas. |

" I would have laughed histerically if soemone had asked me this. When I first saw the Toetoe on the Terraces (the grass stems with big fluffy ends, used to call them cutty grass and they were mean as for having fights with as kids!) I was so stoked to see a bit of my own back yard modelled in a game. And then seeing the seagulls and the mud flat environments really reminded me of Northland and like down around near Thames. I missed the names though, what other kind of Aotearoaen names have the devs put into the game? I hope there are more New Zealand related models, environments and even culture to come! That'd be primo :P Give me a lever and a fulcrum.....hold on boss whats a fulcrum look like??

agreed. I pitched the town Waikikamukau in a few other topics (pronounced why kick a moo cow) would be an awesome nod to the town in NZ as well as cows from diablo, without infringing on it.

there's the Paua Ring in the game ... :D
personally I'd like to see the Wizard of Christchurch as an end-boss |

" or the taniwha ;) hell maui and the sun could be an interesting side story/arc :P all the good old maori stories could do well. |

Now is this all to say that Wraeclast (which cannot be New Zealand, since it's a continent) might be a mythical 'origin' for the Maori people?
I don't know diddly about their traditional stories, mind you. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I think one of the best things about a game like this coming out of NZ is that it has a history and mythology that most other cultures (at least from my experience) are not as familiar with. I feel that this is a great strength that they can draw upon while crafting the story, because it will allow them to craft story details that aren't necessarily so common, as they are in games from other companies.

With the Kiwi pet is it only obtainable pre-open beta or will it always be available for those who wish to donate?
