Path of Exile setting/lore is amazing for Dungons and Dragons

Planning on running a 5e campaign in the path of exile setting. Just replacing some enemies with dnd enemies. Adding more roleplay with some bosses and random encounters.

Just checking out what some other people think of this and if anyone has any cool ideas to apply to this endeavor.

Our DM made a PoE-inspired magic item for the wizard last session. It's a ring full of magical energy that can be pretty much anything you want it to be...if you know how to direct its magic. The wizard does not know how to direct its magic. Therefore, the best she can do is fumble around and hope it becomes something interesting.

Essentially, he just set up an alt rolling simulator in Excel, with a hidden (and weighted!) list of prefixes and suffixes, and gave her a limited number of presses of the button to try and get something cool out of it. Was a lot of fun for the whole group to watch, not just the wizard.
Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!

With so many bits of lore, PoE has a lot of material for books or even other types of videogames

Also, I love everything said by Izaro

I can see it now

Gelatinous Chains: a one-use spell that causes time to pass more slowly for the target. Found wherever Gelatinous Cubes are wont to dwell.

It That Fled's Cosmic Horror's Dentures: A magical set of false teeth that, when inserted into any orifice, allows the wearer to change its appearance to any Humanoid character type and speak any language in the campaign, except for Infernal or Celestial. Requires a one-time 2d6 agility challenge.

Phrenology Belt: a magical leather belt with a 3-D enamelled brass phrenology skull model dangling from it. By rubbing the lucky phrenology skull in various places, the wearer gains the mental faculty thought to reside in that spot for 20 turns.

Cospri's Magical Rabbit Ears Antenna: An antiquated device that may be used in its original form, or broken up and used in pieces (see below). The original device amplifies and deciphers any Hieroglyphs, inscriptions, or illegible Spells when it is connected to a TV set. However, you throw it away after d4 uses.

The Antenna portions can be removed from the contraption and dual wielded as +(5d10) vorpal garrotes by any class with arms skill.

Sin's Vice's Cabinet of Curios: The nice man on the docks who is fond of smoking asks you to collect a number of curiosities, which he locks up in a cabinet of holding. Opening the cabinet causes you to incur a sanity penalty, and you must roll 2 consecutive saves on sanity roll to continue. Each curiosity in the cabinet is contained in a Coke bottle. There's an easter egg in here.

Coatl Egg: This magical item is not actually an egg, but a naturally-occurring magnetic lodestone.

Upon finding a Coatl Egg, the player MUST skip a turn and instead spend that turn rubbing the Coatl Egg on their hard drive.

I did a pathfinder mock-up of the initial 5 acts, and gave them choices of notables to "path towards" that ultimately let them unlock keystones and such based off the skill tree for each class, and they basically would be level 7 after act 5 but they'd get a notable every 2 zones or so.

5e.

Nope nope and NOPE.
There's devils on each side of you with bottles in their hands.
You need one more drop of poison and you'll dream of foreign lands.
I ran a group of four up to the fetid pools, they almost died three times on their way to the necromancer in said fetid pools. Once to the sniper crabs, once to Hillock (was a pretty prodigious fight, the shadow killed him by ripping a sword out of his chest and using it to slice off his limbs) and once to the decaying rhoa guy in mud flats.
