[Theorycraft] 0 Cost Vaal skills

"
As far as I know the only ways to reduced the soul cost of vaal skills are to use bloodstained fossils on weapons and the flask Soul Catcher.

- The Bloodstained fossil mod gives 40% on a two hander, or 20% on 1 handers (dual wield for 40%).

- And Soul Catcher give 25%.

So to reach 100% reduced Soul Cost we will need around 140% increased effect of flasks on you.

- 30% flask effect from going pathfinder (only getting two major nodes and the rest minor nodes)

- 26% flask effect from The Alchemist nodes.

- 14% flask effect from Belt craft (and 33% reduced charges gained)

- 8% flask effect from Conqueror's Potency.

This gets us to 78% flask effect pretty easily, leaving 62% to go.

This is where it might be only in theory.

The Maraketh Timeless Jewel Brutal Restraint can add "8% increased Effect of Flasks on you" to notables within its radius.

If you were to somehow roll one that changed 8 nearby nodes to flask effect, you would hit 100.5% reduced soul cost.

A more realistic version of this is to get enough flask effect to get the soul cost down as low as possible, still allowing you to essentially spam it as much as you want.

If we were to use vaal spark (30 souls) for this, we would only need:

- 96.7% reduced cost for 1 soul (6 nearby nodes)

- 93.3% for 2 soul cost (5 nearby nodes)

- 90% for 3 soul cost (3 nearby nodes) this is definitely already doable.

Additionally you would have around 90% reduced soul gain prevention from the flask, so using swift affliction (15% reduced) would be more than enough to hit 0s Soul gain prevention.

This is just a concept, (feel free to make a proof of concept for me), and may not even be possible depending on how timeless jewels work (there may be a maximum number of nodes that can roll the same mod).

If you could truly get to 100% reduced soul cost you can break the game with some insane builds.

Vaal Double Strike would be ridiculous and fun. There is no cap to number of clones. Builds in previous leagues could get up to 24 clones out. You could spam 50+ easily with even a 3 node jewel and some duration. At 90% reduced souls cost you get to 20 stored clones at once. If a 6 node jewel exists that makes it 60 clones stored at once. You could easily break 100 clones out at a time with a 6 node jewel.

Combined with Sacrificial Heart and a Vaal Aura that is an instant skill you could spam power charges at basically a limitless rate. Discharge could be totally busted with this. This could be like one of those meme builds if you make it an auto discharge with some self damage triggers where the DPS cap is where the servers crash. If someone ever finds an 8 node jewel it needs to be done.

I'll take more people potentially knowing some game info, thereby countering knowledge hoarding, over catering to some people's distaste for Reddit any day.
What does that have to do with anything... that thread was talking about revitalizing Torment.

Same argument applies here. Unless you can show how these threads are actively harmful. Beyond just miffing people with an abiding dislike of Reddit. In fact, it applies even better here since there isn't even an issue of unified resource / time allocation as there would be for GGG working on Torment i.e. it's not taking resources away from some other team task, since we're not on a team.

He got you good.

- No one forced you to read it,
- He's not breaking any rules,
- and the format here is less a PITA since it's not reddit's garbage UI (although PoE should be looking into migrating to Discourse instead of whatever BB software we're on).

Now start taking your own advice

I don't see anything wrong with what the OP did. The truth is that we do get a wider array of topics with better insights on Reddit than on the GD forums. Not many players frequent Reddit and when there is a topic of interest there it gets posted here for more insights. I have seen Exile009's posts here and the topics he links tend to be trending topics (and not fluff Item Showcases) on Reddit which is in the public's interest.
The idea sounds interestig.

Problem is:

Does the game ignore the stored uses and soul gain prevention, if you reach a cost of 0 Souls?

Example:

Vaal BV costs 30 Souls, can store 1 use and has 5 sec Soul Gain prevention.
If we reduce the cost to 0, what happens to the internal mechanism of prevention and storing uses?
If you have the soul gain prevention as a non-ignorable cooldown, reducing cost to 0 won't help much.
