The memory eater/ Defeat the Elder in red maps

I killed the elder guardians while progressing with my The memory eater quest. When i reached the Defeat the elder in red maps, I killed the elder in Tier 14 Dark Forest but for some reason i didnt get a memory fragment and my quest did not complete (my elder influence maps disappeared like they are supposed to after i finish the map and my quest says 14/15 fragments).

Same issue with me.. the elder definitely survived when I completed it as well....
