So we just got 6 new lore characters, but we don't know anything about them?...
|
For those who don't know yet, the new alternate Keystones available via the new Legion jewels are tied to the name of the character mentioned on the jewel. The keystone effects are also somewhat connected to the lore of those characters (for instance, Zerphi = Eternal Youth keystone, and Zerphi was famous for his unnaturally long life). Most of these new names are of characters we've heard of before, however 3 of them are (to my knowledge) completely new. They are:
Rakiata (Karui) = Tempered By War keystone (Edit: Tasalio's Sign mentions Rakiata - he was a Karui chieftain, but deposed by Kaom) Kiloava (Karui) = Glancing Blows keystone (Edit: Valako's Sign mentions Kiloava - he was a Karui Herald of War, but deposed by Kaom) Nasima (Maraketh) = Second Sight keystone We also don't know much about Xibaqua (Vaal, Divine Flesh keystone), apart from that he was some sort of originator of the Vaal (both the Demon Sticher gloves and Mask of the Stitched Demon helm mention him). But maybe I'm missing something. Anyone here more familiar with the lore (or the PoE comics?) who's heard of these names before? If so, who are they? Alternately, what do you think their keystones say about who they might have been? There's also 3 more new lore character we get to meet as generals of the Legions we fight: Viper Napuatti (Vaal) (Edit: The new Maw of Conquest helm mentions a 'Napuatzi', who is a 'viper') Cardinal Sanctus Vox (Templar) Aukana, the Black Sekhema (Maraketh) (Edit: The new Aukuna's Will gloves make mention of this one - sounds like she was a necromancer) Not sure if they're meant to mean anything, since there's quite a few random, un-lorified unique enemies spread throughout the games' areas, so they could just be names given for the sake of having a named general. It is worth noting though that both of the other two generals are known figures with extensive lore about them (Hyrri and Lioneye). Thoughts? The league really really lacks context and lore.
It goes like : hey click the thing kill baddies ... the end. There's no story explaining the war nor who we're killing. Really sad lorewise. | |

I am pretty sure it was same for most of leagues. Only recent leagues gave you some clues, like those random rambling carved stones.

Kiloava was mentioned before on a unique item.

very unfortunate that they didnt throw some resources explaining who are they and why.. maybe there's some bigger force behind spawning the monoliths all over but wouldnt make too much sense for them to show in the atlas..

Poe 0.2/10 Returning to poe in 3.27: ATROCIOUS game performance, 5/10 league and I apprently missed the loot back in the last league. The more things change the more they stay the same.. |

It could be worse, remember when Betrayal was new and Jun felt compelled to go on a 10 minute diatribe every time you encountered her? lol

Path of exile lore is subtle, to say the least. Only the most important characters will get plaques dedicated to their honour, which we only find a few of, the rest destroyed by history and time.
The 'new' generals and characters aren't particularly new, if you think about it. They are just the greatest generals of their people, some forgotten, some whose names are remembered to this day. Take the Black Sekhema for instance. Why haven't we heard of her before? The Golden Sekhema and the Red Appear in a few places, but only as the conquered relics of others. Perhaps the black Sekhema was a more successful leader of her people, one who the more book originated cultures, such as the eternal empire (you know, people who wrote things down instead of just telling stories to each other) just didn't want to talk about. No one likes losing, so no one likes writing history books about people who beat them. Legion is lore-wise a sort of Valhalla for all the factions of POE, so characters who didn't die in battle probably didn't end up there. Characters corrupted by the beast had their minds and souls twisted so they also probably aren't candidates for 'valhalla'. The Vaal worshipped their rulers and high priests and priestesses almost exclusively, so it makes sense that we don't really know much about generals, warrior being of a lower caste and not really worth putting into their own history books. Similar thing for the Templar, popes and high priests are more important than lowly warrior priests. Point is, there's a lot that can be inferred by using common sense from the lore, and a lot they GGG probably intentionally leaves open for personal interpretation. The fact that you're asking who the hell these random people are proves that they hooked at least you with their frustratingly vague storytelling. |

" The new Aukuna's Will gloves suggests that it was the Maraketh themselves who might've erased her memory. Sounds like she was some kind of necromancer. And Marakeths' central tenet is 'Honour the Mother, Honour the Life' (ask Irasha about it), so I imagine they really don't like necromancy much. https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Aukuna%27s_Will Also, there seems to be a mismatch between her name in-game (or maybe it's just on the wiki page, as I haven't yet seen her in-game myself) and the name on the gloves - both are called the 'Black Sekhema', but gloves spell it Aukuna while the general seems to be called Aukana. Probably just an error by someone tho. Last edited by Exile009#1139 on Jun 12, 2019, 5:33:20 PM

" Nice catch! I've updated the post, along with two other mentions in the new Legion uniques. |

So is Rakiata. Ngamahu's Sign features Akoya, btw.
