Keystones, do I need them?

Almost every build I see has a keystone or two. So I need an answer why these keystones are so important and what if I build something that doesn't have a keystone is it still viable?

Nope, you don't need them. Just some keystones are really good at defining builds. For example, Blood Magic, Chaos Inoculation, Eldritch Battery.
Oh finally, well thanks for advice now I can make my build in peace.

If you want to post your build I could help you with it, what's your ideas?
I'm gonna make a CI Eldritch build for hardcore and be the first to leech their way to max level.

HARD MODE, GO.
The first person who actually questioned what my build was T_T THANK YOU!!!
Now back to the build well I'm currently going melee evasion tank.
My questions are if I need more health or do I need more damage?

Looking good to me. Since you are going Eva, I would advise looking into Arrow Dodging, since its a Keystone with a big benefit to ya with no drawback. On health and damage, health/defence really is much the priority, with your gear backing up your damage.
Hmmm I see I'm revising it right now. I'm choosing sword/mace/axe/dagger+shield right now for my weapon. What weapons is most useful for evasion tank?
Major keystones are generally situational, you can make do without any of em without much penalties (though blood magic is pretty much the best for almost any build).

Big keystones(big boosts in X stat) need to be measured on how many "wasted" skill points need to be taken.

For example, the duelist's "diamond skin +15 all resist" requires me to take 3 nodes to enter for +15 res all for most builds.

Why not just take the +18/+18/+18 single element resist node near the center? it gives me access to multiple regen nodes and a +12% hp node as well.

basic stuff.

Also avoid weapon specific keystones, not only are they restrictive but you will have more than enough damage from "generic" +damage nodes.

Looks like you just gave me a new way of thinking. Things are getting harder now but hey atleast I can rethink the notables I took.
