unable to craft spell damage on wand with no spell damage .... Bug?

you can see from the image above , that the wand has no local spell damage mod , it has open prefix and the crafting bench option for spell damage is disabled . I do have the required currency

yet i am unable to craft this mod, why is it?

one of the elemental damage mods is blocking spell damage. probably the cold.

if you're using a cold skill, the 'added cold damage to spells' mod will be as good as % spell damage on this wand.

because these elemental mod prefixes are mutually exclusive with each other and spell damage prefixes. you just cant have two of them, they are from the same group of affixes.

Every rare item can have 3 suffixes and 3 prefixes, you have 3 prefixes on this wand, thats why you cant add more.

this is definitely NOT the issue. look at the picture. the green message is a system message that actually tells you what the problem is. "Already has a mod of this type"

If it was full of prefixes, it would say "item cannot have another prefix" instead.

yeah , i am having bit of trouble finding how exactly
a % cold damage is the same as % spell damage
i don't see it even in the same group. on the wiki

The wiki is made by players. You can update it now that you know!

Spell damage, cold damage, lightning damage, fire damage are categorised intentionally as the same in crafting so that they can't be stacked so easily. There's no easy way to know this besides how you know it now; by trying it and finding out. It's not the only case where this is true.

Same applies to +2 to skill gems IIRC. Like plus fire, lightning, cold wont let you add +2 to support gems. Or something like that.

Yeah I think you can get a good overview of crafting options if you look here:
