Possible solution to many problems regarding fps (stuttering and input lag)

TLDR: Found an interesting solution to my game stuttering problems (that are most likely caused by the Win 10 (1809) update which forces all games to run in fullscreen optimization mode) in the Apex Legends subreddit.

Since the beginning of the league I felt that my game was running way worse than it did back in Betrayal. Betrayal encounters were fine but the game overall was stuttering a lot. Back in Betrayal the only problems I encountered were some fps drops in delve when everything was exploding but in this league my game is stuttering a lot.

So the other day I saw a post in the Apex Legends subreddit about the game not running in exclusive fullscreen mode. People said that the "Disable fullscreen optimizations" option didn't work for them and that there is noticable input lag even when having 100+ fps and I had the same thing happening to me, when I had 100 fps it felt more like 30 fps. At first I thought that that is a problem only related to Apex Legends. But I tried it out on PoE as well and it worked perfectly.

If I understood correctly then the Win 10 (1809) update made it so that fullscreen optimization is always on.

Do this at your own risk!

Here's what I did:

Open Regedit and go to...

  • \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore\Children\
  • Use the search function (Right-click on the children folder - Find... ) and search for the games executable (Example for PoE x64 it would be "PathOfExile_x64Steam.exe").
  • Make a backup (Export) of the subkey / aka "The highlighted folder on the left pane".
  • Then delete the subkey / aka "The highlighted folder on the left pane" for that game and done!

I did this to both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version, just in case.

This removed all stutters that are related to fps for me. However, if, for example, you are listening to spotify while playing PoE in fullscreen and switch songs, it won't show the small notification thing with the next song in the top left corner anymore or when you change your windows volume with your keyboard media keys it won't show the volume percentage in the corner of the screen.

All credit goes to this comment in the Apex Legends subreddit.

I'll give it a try.
Nope. Didn't work.

Three seconds into the city and it literally froze for a 'lot' few seconds.

I literally give up.
not working for me ... and I do not believe the problem belongs to my machine but to the game
