[3.5 Betrayal] Maps and return on Investment

Long story short :

It's Betrayal, the content is great but my 3rd week of mapping end the 4th of January and there is some problems i do not find the answer.

- Delve and Incursion are good but don't give me maps
- Map bosses give me maps 1/10th of the time
- I play only with friends or SSF (I do not Trade for maps and i don't want to)
- Last night played for 3.5 hours only looted 2 tier 4 maps, 1 tier 5 map and 1 tier 6 map

And the problem is here :

I'm at my 3rd week doing maps, i'm level 86 and still not passed T6 Maps.
Past Leagues, RoI have always been bad for me but not to that point.

I alch all my maps because blues don't give anything to me and yet i'm stuck in T3/T4 even going dow to T2/T1 again.

All my alchs are found in Delve for now.

I'm tired of not being able to sustain low tier maps like i have done past leagues.

Is it not too much asking to have a GARANTED loot of maps on map Bosses ? because let's be clear : it won't change how top players are rolling on the content each league. Map economy is irrelevant to me.

Also, it would be nice to have something to downgade and map in Tiers like trade 1 T4 map to get 2 T3 of any kind that you completed.

I love Path of Exile and its content, but having to rely on trade to have maps / end game content access it not what i want to experience (aka AFK Trading Simulator)...

Well i somehow agree that its probably not the best system to rely on rng.


I had a bit of a struggle to break out of T7 into T8 since i simply dindt drop enough T8 maps.
Then Yesterday i dropped 6new T8 maps within 1 single T8 map
dropped 3 new T8 maps the next T8 map.....

No joke ! i couldnt believe my eyes but i really dropped 6new T8 maps within a single T8 map.

I really would like the map bosses have like a 50% Chance to drop a map of the same tier.

As it is now within 10 maps of your Tier you can theoretically get as low as zero maps of same Tier and as high as ~ 60+ maps of same Tier depending on RNG jesus.

On the other hand SSF is suppoused to be a bit of a struggle.

Game is not build around SSF
I personally find myself swimming in chaos and thats being a new player who doesnt sell stuff.

I only played PoE for 3weeks so far ... its my first time PoE and i allready have grinded about 300 chaos from this game....
If i think about it from a non SSF perspective i should probably start spending it on buying maps since i simply dont know what else to do with all that chaos ;)

For now i have no problem with currencies, i have a problem with map loot percentage.

I still don't get why there is not an incentive to go to the boss with a chance to die and a 100% certain map drop (Risk vs Rewards). Because in the state of boss loots, i don't even bother doing the bosses.

I see your frustration but all players come across bad rng streak from time to time.

Delve - you can sometimes drop map at the end of the node but the most profitable are cities deeper in the delve (Vaal Outpost - 40+; Abyssal City - 83+; Primeval Ruins - 220+) - sulphite gain is limited - see Atlas to counter Niko in maps.


Incursion - you need to build Temple and your incursions in a specific way - getting and upgrading Surveyor's Study is the best way to get maps and you can get some maps from the Storage Room sometimes.

Map Bosses - there should be a 20% chance to drop a map (unless smth changed) besides regular map drop but I would like to have more predictable system too.

More tips:
-To unlock a map one tier higher (map you haven´t done yet) you need to run the map connected with.
-Use Zana master as much as you can - do her dailies (they are counting for completion now); buy all maps you haven´t completed yet from her + any maps with good layout / density especially higher tiers
-Do Zana´s quest (she will offer map of that tier)
- Use Zana´s "Alternate of same tier 1-10 mod" for 1c
and shaped recipe on t5 maps (you will get shaped version of the map 5 tiers higher) - probably worth only for t5 with good layout
-Use 3:1 map recipe
- Using a Vaal orb to corrupt a map can lead to a map one tier higher (see outcome on the wiki) - probably worth using on higher tiers
-Share maps with your friends if you won´t participate in trade.

Using all (most of) these and you should have no problem to sustain white/yellow tiers.

Your answer is great but i already know all of that. And none of this work for me

Delve : dept 63 and going down, no vaal outpost no maps

Incursion : No maps on 10+ temple runs, only beat the boss one (bad rng)

Zana's quest : stuck at T5 cause T5 map drop...

Bosses : 20% chance of 20 maps that is 4 maps : what if none of those are higher than the tier your play ? (And this is the bare minimum i usually end with no maps in 20 or 30 runs)

There is the need of a minimum reward / Return on Investment path because 1 month in the league and all i want now is leave till the next one to see if things are better.

hmm.. it may be only a work around, but I could sell you a bulk of white/yellow maps this evening.
unless something changes i should come online around 7-8 pm (gtm +1).

While i appriciate your help i won't buy your maps because for me, the topic should not need to be existing.

In my point of view the game should yeld you the minimum to go ahead not restrain you because lack of luck and needing to trade.

Past leagues ùmapping was not a problem because i could ruin my self buying zana's maps every day. With no daily reset of her sales, i'm stuck.

My friends can spare me some maps they don't need, but i'm tired asking them every time RNG decides to restrain me...

You know that 3*t4 = 1*t5; corrupting t4 might result t5, … or just buy the map you need for the quest or not but ...

And .. Use Zana´s "Alternate of same tier 1-10 mod" for 1c

The map system has been balanced around trade since beginning.
There are more options how to get maps these days though.

If you won´t buy maps it´s up to you.
Anyway to fight rng you need to run more maps that´s all you need.

Zana's quest stuck : cause need a specific map that i can't loot despite many attemps. Will probably ask friends once more and bother them a little bit more.

After 89 hours in this league i'm still running T3 / T4 while my friends are running T10 maps

Running more maps to fight the RNG is not working cause i'm slowly running out of maps. 5 maps in return every 15 maps is not sustainable.

Maybe not but it´s. You can post your suggestions in feedback section.

It´s hard to believe you can´t sustain white maps. Do you really apply all (most) of the things I have mentioned earlier.

If you´re running out of t4 maps run t3, 2, 1 or farm act 9-10 to get more tier 1 … use 3:1 recipe to fill the gaps and so on. (completion bonus might help to sustain maps you know).
Btw Syndicate can drop maps sometimes.

I have only one rule to fight the system ... "Never stop running maps"
…. whatever maps you have.

That´s what streamers do (running maps all the time). That´s all you can do (besides buying).
I wish you GL
