Old player returning - start anew, or continue old character?

Hi so I have a level 53 Templar that I completed the game with but that was a looong time ago, also I have a 30-ish Shadow. Neither are particularly well-geared, obviously. I have Passive respec on both, I think, so I could remake their skill trees entirely.

My question is: should I restart on a new character to experience the game all over again, new and improved, or should I just pick up one of these old characters instead?

I should note that I never got into the lategame at all, only completed the story part of the game, and I think even story content has increased since i last played (like 2+ years ago probably).

Additionally, if you recommend starting a new character, do you have any build recommendations?

Can you elaborate on why a new character would be better? Also, suggestions for fun builds would be awesome, though perhaps the game is changing too much to predict viable builds in advance?

Because you haven't really gotten anywhere with your old ones so nothing is lost by starting anew, the game goes a fair bit faster now.

I can see a lot of players going for a cast on crit build that will rise again this patch, but that won't start really working before late game and it's kinda boring up to that point. Had a summoner templar in guardian flavor with ground slam, heralds and holy relics last league, that was pretty fun and it kinda works out of the box.

If it's been VERY long since you played, your old character is outdated anyhow. I would suggest finding yourself a guild, and start fresh.

Betrayal is a new league. Anyone that joins starts over completely. New character, empty stash.
