So...Lore-wise, what exactly is Azurite?

In-game, I know you spend it on crawler upgrades.

But I haven't seen any lore entries that explains exactly what this stuff is and why people want it so much. I assume it's valuable somehow, but why? Is it used in Thaumaturgy? Is this the stuff that blue crafting orbs are made out of?

I've looked around a few lore compilations, but I can't find anything describing Azurite from an in-universe perspective.

I'd guess GGG might just be poking fun at Blizzard after the introduction of 'Azerite' in WoW, but if they're going to make in a canon part of PoE, even just for a single league, a little lore would be nice.

It's basically crystal meth and Niko is addicted to it, so he will give you upgrades if you bring it to him.
Its supposed to be the fuel the crawler uses.

Its the Jet A of Wraeclast.

Oh wait azurite not sulphite. No fucking clue.

Or they're just continuing the use of real world minerals for things in the game. Quartz, Sapphire, Ruby, Amethyst, Basalt flasks, etc... Azurite fits right in. ;)

Imagine running low on ideas for currency but still sending your players to a certain doom do they can pick up a rock that's basically used to dye shit...not even like it can be used as a catalyst in anything.

It's basically useless. ):[
It comes from those radioactive blue monkeys. It's in big piles around them and they fling it at you when disturbed.

This is correct. If you notice he get crazier and crazier more you give him like a drug addict.
Git R Dun!
It's a copper compound. Would be more funny if it were mercury based. That's the origin of the "Mad Hatter" from Lewis Carrol's stuff. They used mercury in the felt and it really wrecks the brain. Copper, not so much.

That being said, I really enjoyed the humor. Niko was a fun character.
