According to http://poedb.tw/us/item.php?n=Gilded+Fossil it's one in about 2300. You will see the albino rhoa feathers 10 times before seeing a mirror shard. (Not even a mirror - just a shard)

The gilded fossil is very overrated. I did some quick napkin estimated and came out with an expected outcome of around 9 chaos, about half of which comes from the exalted orb drops alone. The full breakdown looks something like this:

0.04 chaos: 2x mirror shards (1:23011 chance for 1/10th of a mirror, so around 10 exalts)
4.34 chaos: exalted orb
0.26 chaos: 3x stacked deck (assuming you can sell for 2 chaos per)
1.08 chaos: 5x remnant of corruption (at 5c per)
0.43 chaos: a bunch of currencies (eyeballed to around 5 chaos total value)
0.78 chaos: 3x chaos orb
0.65 chaos: 5x alchemy orb (assuming 1c:2a)
0.99 chaos: 5x several orbs (eyeballing the value at 3.8 chaos total)

Since these go for way more than 9 chaos per piece to other players (14-15 chaos), there's absolutely no point in using them yourself.

Thats assuming you listed everything we can get from the fossil.

But, i know that GGG likes suprises and keeping secrets. I would not be suprised if there was some other features.

Fun? What's that, some new feature they added to the game? :p

its a gamble. if you used it one time and got an ex or mirror shard, it was obviously worth it. chances of that happening are low, but they do happen. hence gamble.

to do it 50-100 times though will surely always lose you money, as the value is usually set higher than average. and with such a small sample size the probability of being on the "lucky" side of the chances after that many are very low.

The definition of "worth" is subjective. Is it worth it if it gives me some kind of excitement? Of course.
