Or maybe upgrade them with a vendor recipe?

Sell 10 1-socket resonators, get a 2-socket resonator. This would also allow us to get those 4-socket resonators if they won't drop
10 is just a suggestion, just put in a number for the vendor recipe.

And maybe sell x fossils for a random fossil (just like the prophecy for 5 unique items)?

I'd rather they fix the mines, it's way too suspicious to be pure RNG from all the feedback I've seen imho ( coupled to my personal experience ).

@OP : use those 1 socket resonators and fossils you don't need on jwlry / maps, they won't be overflowing so much anymore ( still overflowing though, especially chaotic ones )
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
Yeah, it seems odd that some people never find 4 socktet resonators. But even if they would fix it, a vendor recipe would help out with bad RNG.

And I never realised you could use the fossils on maps! Thanks for the tip!

If you're already geared, perfect fossil on a map = no need chisels :)
And often gives more quality
