Depth 49 and I JUST realised how to return to mine to collect loot/backtrack.

Apparently, when you open the Subterranean Chart, you can click the icon in the upper left corner to return BACK to the Mines where you left off...

Indeed, totaly counterintuitive and the worst part is it displays the same icon used for the surface and the description isn't clear at all.

Uh how you can confuse it doesn't make any sense. You click on the cart to pick a location, and on that map is an easy to see button that takes you out. Like how is this hard?

The issue is that the button specifically says:
"Visit:
Mine Encampment
(Upgrades Available!)"

.

Therefore, I expect it to be a button that allows me to Visit the Mine Encampment.

Once I'm inside the Mine Encampment and I'm trying to return to the place where I left off, why would I want to press a button that allows me to Visit the Mine Encampment? I'd much rather click the place where I left off.

Then, clicking the place where I left off creates a new instance, thereby deleting all the loot I left behind.

Gonna write up a quick Feedback & Suggestions post for this.

yeah i discovered it far too late too lol. It just wasn't intuitive, but GGG always makes things more complicated than they need to be lol.
Main content: use of waypoint brings you to existing instance
Delve: use of waypoint creates new instance

Brilliant logic and prefect consistence right here...

Well, since you're a mathematician, it's possible you think like a game developer, and the use of the button is totally intuitive to you :P

Here's an example for the "collect loot" case:
1. Run a delve to the end and finish a Delve Encounter. Loot spews forth, and the cart becomes clickable again.
2. Pick up loot. Bags are full, can't fit all this loot.
3. Click cart.
4. Button in upper left returns you to camp. OK.
5. Sell loot.
6. Click Subterranean Charts.
7. How do I return to mine?
7a. I'm pretty sure most people will click the mine node they were just at - "Fungal Depths," "Magma Caverns," etc. However, this will create a new instance, thereby deleting all your loot.
7b. What you're actually supposed to do is click the button in upper left to return you to mine.

Yes.

Honestly, even after discovering that that button is a "toggle" I've been running into a very human issue - memory is tied to location, so as soon as I'm in the mine encampment doing mine encampment stuff, I totally forget that I've left loot behind and start a new Delve run anyways. lol

tl;dr you can collect more than 1 inventory worth of loot by thinking of the return-to-camp button as a TOGGLE, not a one-way ticket.
