Minimal hardware requirements ?

Hello,

what are the minimal hardware requirements for POE now ?
Because I only have 3 GB RAM and an old ati radeon and it's not enough.
The game uses too much RAM and is much too slow.

It used to have only 2GB RAM requirement but it's past now.

Why cant old PCs play this game too ?
I know they wont change that, so I just give up this game.

i used to play on a old rig for many years with only 4GB ram and it worked just fine but I had to close everything to play it. the game + win10 + few goodies topped the ram to 3.2 - 3.5GB so I guess the min ram you need is 4GB.

btw if your pc can handle 3GB you should be able to increase it to 4GB. Switch your 2 slot with only 512mb with some 1GB and you will be OK. Those are cheap af like 20$. You may also swap your videotozorcard to something more new like a gtx1050 for cheap.

As more content gets added to a game there will be new features and options as well. GGG and many other developers kinda have to do that in some capacity to keep things new and interesting enough for people to continue playing the games.

If you want something similar to Path of Exile, Diablo 2 has mods that work for that purpose. Torchlight 2 has them as well, and there are likely many other games and mods that could work on your hardware to get something similar.

But yes, the minimum RAM needed to stay smooth is 4GB. That's what I've got and even having Skype up as well causes problems.
To be honest, I'd consider the least RAM to reasonably play this game is 8 GB. 6 GB is workable, while 4 GB is POSSIBLE. However, in such a situation, because the game DOES leak memory, you will have to restart (not just relog; you'll need to close the program) periodically, such as every 2 hours or so. Also, you will NOT be able to have any browsers open while playing.

8 GB is about the minimum to play comfortably: not needing to constantly worry about restarting, and able to use SOME browser tabs. Granted, I've found that even 16 GB can hit its limit if it's been running too long and you're using Chrome/Opera with a bajillion tabs.

I do wish they'd better illustrate what this game needs to run. My suggested "bare minimum requirements" (e.g, the minimum I'd feel comfortable with a player trying) would be something like:

  • Any Intel or AMD quad-core of at least 2.0 GHz, or dual-core at least 3.0 GHz.
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • Any video card that properly supports DX 11.

Truth be told, the graphics requirements are very low; it's the CPU that tends to get bogged down. You don't even have to push the detail levels low, just cut the resolution.

I play POE on Win7 32-bit with 4GB and it runs 4-6 hours/day without any DCs or crashes since months.
Only at the start of each new area the game is stuttering for a few seconds (especially annoying in a few boss fights - but I just run then until it runs smoother).

But it is important to run the batch command once (in admin mode and reboot)
"
bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072
(to increase the available process memory to 3GB instead of default 2 GB).
And start POE with the command line parameter "-gc 2" (to have a smoother garbage collector) - also look at Launch options for further arguments.

And in the BIOS settings there should be no shared graphics memory set and only an external graphics card used (for desktop computers).

But with a 64-bit OS there should be at least 6 or 8 GB, that's right.
