Thats the game subtly telling you to destroy your items so you have to re-grind them.

I think its proof that The Inventor plays standard, that is clearly a quantity gem not a vaal orb

You're just (understandably) worried that items are being created for us by someone that is uncannily shaped like Homer Simpson.

That's what you do every time you apply currency to an item. Think of it, you need to push that currency into that item. :-)
