Spell to key assignments

Hello I do not understand why 'spell to key assingment' is not stored for each weapon (I and II) so when you change (X) spells have not to be corrected each time.

the keyboard key assigned to one skill is stored in the skill gem.
so if you take a skill off and put it on again it still remembers it's key assignment.

and yes, this interacts badly with the weapon swap as it's a set of different skills.


ggg had the idea of switchable keyboard assignment layers in the ui but eventually didn't implement them.

why? well, nobody knows. someone asks them on reddit.

The current system is clunky and I would love to see it improved.

In the meantime, the workaround to force the skillbar to remember skills is to "pair up" active skill gems. For example, suppose you want left click to use "Cleave" on set I and "Split Arrow" on set II. You would need to socket Cleave inside one of the weapons or shield on set I and Split Arrow inside the bow on Set II. Then when you set left click to Cleave on Set I and Split Arrow on Set II the skillbar will remember the swaps.

Obviously there are glaring holes in this like if you want gems socketed in your body armor to be used for a button in Set I but a different button or unused in Set II, such as if you have a 6L melee attack in your chest and want a 6L bow attack on the same button on weapon swap. You just cant do that under the current system.
