Fire and minion witch in Chaos ?

Hi all,

My first char was this witch I leveled up till 62. Everything was fun and going well until I arrived in Chaos where I spend hours going through little parts of the level.
I based my build on minions and fire and I was wondering if there was a way to make it more viable to go through chaos levels ?

There must be as I have a ranger with half the level doing triple the amount of damage...

I did not find a way to link my tree but its all minions and some fire.

i wish i could help but have not gotten beta yet. i plan on goin fire and minion or just minion, have u tried to alter ur spec some?

I'm not in beta but from my understanding you have a lot of your gems placed in your items incorrectly. You have a number of cases where you have support gems that are not linked to any primary skill.

In your wand you have the Cold to fire support gem linked to Spark. Obviously spark doesn't do cold damage so you are not getting any benefit from that gem. You should try to find a way to link Cold to Fire support gem to Ice Spear skill.

In your helm you don't have any linked skills but you have your minion life support gem in there, so again that's doing nothing for your minions.

In your robes you have an Item Rarity support gem linked to Phase Run. I will admit I'm not sure about how this works, but I would suspect you would want to the item rarity gem linked to a damage spell so that spell would gain item rarity when it kills a monster.

In your gloves you have Minion Damage support gem linked to Increase Item Quantity support gem. Obviously two support gems linked to each other are not going to have an effect.

In your boots you have Increased Critical Strikes and Increased Critical Damage support gems linked to Firestorm. Once again I'm not sure if this is correct since I'm not in beta yet, but I'm not sure if support gems link to all active skills in the chain of skills. If you move Firestorm in the top right gem slot and move Increased Critical Damage to the top left then both support skills will definitely be affecting Firestorm.

My suggestion would be to remove the gems from your wand and stick Minion Life in the top socket, Minion damage in the bottom socket, and either Raise Zombie or Raise Spectre in the middle slot (whichever summon you find more useful). In your robes I would put Ice Spear in one of the linked sockets and Cold to Fire in the other socket. In your gloves I would put Spark in one of the bottom sockets and either Faster Casting or Item Quantity in the other bottom socket.

I'm not sure what your spec looks like, but if you have all the fire damage skills and a number of the +minions/minion life/minion dmg skills then it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Fire does the most damage and it doesnt have the issue of destroying corpses for summons like cold does. However I have read that most people think that lightning is generally better than fire because there are currently more skill gems that have lightning damage. I have seen people say that they are doing crazy damage with just Spark when given good support gems. However getting enough Orbs of Regret to respec from Fire to Lightning would require a ton of farming or a lot of expensive trading.

I know I'm not in the beta but I hope that helped. Sorry for the wall of text.

Thanks for the input ! Sure I have checked if the linked gems were affecting the spell by looking at the damage screen in game, so this is OK whatever the order of the gems. But Its true I lack of links to link properly the gems in the right spots. For the moment I just carry them knowing some are not used to level them up ;)

I will try to change the cold to fire gem to something more useful and indeed sparks is currently much better than my fireball or firestorm that I had to stop using as far less good in terms of DPS.

For the respe, I think it is faster to create a brand new ice witch using ice spears as this is the best build for a witch currently, only problem is you need this Vols armor that I dont have.


Anyone else with some in game advice to improve the fire witch as I cant respec it ?

Your Cold to Fire on Spark is useless... better link something like Pierce on Spark, it's more useful...

As for minions, yeah... you didn't link anything to them...

You can post you tree by clicking on your character at the bottom of the screen, then "passive tree" on the right.

i think first you must use some 4 links items for more powerful skills

Like 4 links boots/ gloves / helmet and 4 link armour (5 and 6 links is better but very expensive)

after you can't find easyly better stuff than you have actually

First like us your skill tree here can be simple for help you.
For do this click on your character at the end of this page and click to passive skill tree on the right
Copy the link at the end of this new page named : "link to this build"

depending of you skills tree i think it is better to choose 1 elemental damage and to max it so spoark for lightinning or fire for firestorm and fireball

if you see in your helmet your gems minion life serve to nothing cause it is not link with skill gems raise zombie and spectre.

For your stuff wand and focus are not so bad but the rest are crap for me. (like i say before i can trade you better stuff for cheap i think)

I think after that your witch can better than now obviously but minion/fire or light is not the best build for a chaos witch (in my opinion) but can be viable

I also noticed that by chaos leeching I can easily find 4 links items on the ground and then use these. Hope I find some more

Sadly I realize that this build is not optimized for Chaos and that I don't use at all, everything I put in fire as sparkle is far more superior than fireball. I guess for open beta after the rest of characters I will restart with a cold witch !

Can you say how much DPS you do ?

I think you must play only fire spell and don't play spark anymore (cause your lightinning spell are not boost)

As you can see I focused everything on fire and minions.

Just one quick thing would be to get Elementalist to the left of Witch starting point. I'm guessing you just forgot to grab it since you are there but didn't get it. Grabbing the extra fire dmg just below that might help too (or lightning if you want to keep using Spark).
