Tips on ele melee?

So I'm looking to build a templar using Glacial Hammer, Molten Strike and a lightning ability that I haven't decided on...

Problem I'm having is that I've not played consistently in years...

I'm wondering if A. it's even viable and B. should I pick up elemental equilibrium?

Any tips are welcome... I've only ever had one character get up into the 70s and he's stuck there as I screwed up somewhere along the way so I'm really trying to approach this as a brand new player.
