tired about dying cause to lag in an incursion ..... i can 1 shot everything but still losing XP with that SHITTY low ball dev way......

This problem isn't in their game. It's the connection between you and them that's the problem. They can't fix it, but they can help you fix it if you show them a trace and can identify where packets are being lost.

It changed everything for me. Lockstep seems to have problems in Incursions, I guess there's too much going on and the server gets swamped, leading to stuttering and lag spikes. It was basically unplayable for me at times, but after switching to predictive mode it's mostly smooth sailing. :) | |

You know predictive dose not actually fix latency though right?
It masks it, it simply changes it from a stutter to desync. Now since i guess we are talking about stuttering and that predictive dose nothing for you it can only mean asset loading, there is only so much they can do with this...they have reduced asset sizes a few times, given you the option to use a 64 bit verison of the game and as such utilize more ram for assets BUT outside of loading the whole game to ram you are ALWAYS going to be loading something. Maybe try --noasync It loads a bit more to ram, though you would still stutter with MTX when someone loads into town, and ATM the new nemesis mods they added seem to need some loading when they trigger. Yeah I'm aware of that, thanks for spelling it out. The type of lag I've suffered from is mostly stuttering, brief freeze-ups randomly. Predictive pretty much eliminates all of it, I've found. Of course as you say, if you're experiencing actual lag / packet loss situations, it will only go so far and inevitably will cause massive desync on top of things. What's interesting to me is that there seems to be a limit for how much the Lockstep system can deal with, and the Incursions seems to be poking that limit far too often. Obviously this is just speculation but when running one on Lockstep, even when everything is golden at my end, e.g. stable low ping, plenty of system resources etc it'll stutter like crazy. Clearly something server-side and/or the route to me cannot deal with it. Predictive seems to just smooth over all of that, and I get a fully playable stable frame rate. Asset loading can absolutely be a problem, as you also say. I tested that in the past and ran the game entirely off a RAM disk (instead of SSD like I normally do). While it did improve transitions, the overall feel wasn't really different and I still had micro stuttering. I've since got a new computer so maybe I should try that again. Let me know if it's interesting and I can share my findings. |
