No Signal after 3 min of game time - Only happens to PoE

Hello and thank you in advance for your time -

I am not a computer guru, but something is amiss -

Situation : Every time I log into Path of Exile - I get to play for about 3-5 min before my monitor (which is a TV) goes black and says "No Signal" - at which point I can get NO screen , not desktop nuthin, I have to hard reset the system - and at reboot works wonderfully again.

Now - I have done the standard stuff - that almost everyone will say, checked stuff and tried different cables, and unplugged and plugged it back in -

It is worth mentioning, that I have played Final Fantasy 14 - League of Legends, Swtor, Smite, Daiblo 3, a host of steam games, ect ect, and have never, ever had this issue, till the current update to Path of Exile and logging in. I have played Path of Exile before using this system and this monitor and never had a issue.

Run HWmonitor while you play and look at your GPU usage. Your GPU is most likely overheating. There's some sort of bug causing 100% GPU usage for some people after 3.3 This is probably what's happening. If it is you can turn on vsync in game or try third party programs if the vsync in game introduces too much click delay. I'm looking for a fix for this too because I have the 100% GPU usage bug.

I did what you said - de-activated V-sync and restarted it with a 29 frame rate - rather then 30 and saved it just and got a grand total of 5 min in game - before same thing happened -

I think my best bet, sadly is to just wait for a month to let them fix all the issues before attempting to play , I Am sure my computer would thank me so i don't have continually - hard reset it. Sucks a bit.. but oh well, Thank you for your help though -

Ill keep watching forums for some kind of fix.

I have to reiterate Atriax's (and my own) request for GPU temperatures. If a minute or two is the best you can do, then that'll have to be sufficient - we need to know whether it's an overheating issue. It looks like you've quite an old card, so it's possible a fan has failed.

You say that you "have played" a whole bunch of games. How recently? If you're still playing them now that you've problems in Path of Exile, then that's relevant - it helps rule out certain things. But if you mean before you'd problems in PoE then that's a lot less relevant and I'd be inclined to ignore that - if a fan failed recently, playing those games a year ago isn't really pertinent.

This was taken about 5 min into the game at the first boss and promptly a min or so later, before i could get to the "mud flats" - i got a "no signal" issue again. So i was not able to get it right at the moment of failure

(I have played a few on and off games (like for a half hour or so) but these would be the base ones)

86 degrees is a bit higher than I'd really like to see.

The fact that it got there from 38 degrees in a few minutes of gaming makes me inclined to suspect that it could easily go a bit higher and that would be what triggers the problem.

I'd recommend looking inside the case while the computer is on to double-check that the video card's fan(s) are working properly. At those kind of temperatures they should be spinning very fast and not be at all difficult to hear. While the computer is off I'd suggest cleaning out the case to get rid of any dust and make sure that it's not right up against a wall.

I've been playing Path of Exile for about an hour and HWMonitor reports 61 degrees as the highest recorded temperature for my card. A significantly higher temperature after dramatically less time does make me very concerned. Overheating can result in physical (permanent) damage.

I opened the case and blew it out, as well as checked the fan on my video card, and its working. Someone mentioned it might be that I use a TV as my monitor and not a standard display monitor so it might be that because of that the card runs warmer, I do not recall ever hearing that.. but it might be a option, I do not know enough about video cards to say yes or not to that.

I was however able to play path of exile for over 10 min today - before it again went out - Still not 100% sure what is causing it. As most other games - I ran Elder Scrolls on line, and it ran abouto 85-87 - as well, but that is at high settings. I run PoE at low settings - so i do not get why this update is causing me so much issue-

I will continue to try here and there - but i figured after hard restarting my computer a few times - I do not wanna risk corrupting the OS while windows is tinkering in the background.

Any other ideas (beyond Get good, get a new video card and pray to the PoE gods to allow you to play) are of course appreciated. And thank you for taking the time to try and help me deal with this issue.

As a side note it is normally about 60-65F in the house - so it might be that the ambient air in the system is warmer (as my computer does run a fair amount of time) which could proly effect why my system runs a bit warmer.

The Alienware aura has a "Wind tunnel" feature in it..(easiest way to explain it) It is a fan just inside the air take in the front that blows directly across my video card - (which also has a fan on it) and is covered by a piece of plastic on a hinge that seems to direct the air flow to the video card -

That is my system more or less, minus the "hinged" airflow on the top , I have a screen type top - with a lot of air flow holes beyond that my system looks exactly the same.

I have no idea what happened.. but it worked today - i was able to play for 3-4 hours perfectly fine, (little lag when going into hubs, but hell thats expected)

Nothing has changed really - but it worked so im not gonna look a gift horse in the Mouth.. THanks for all the help

It would not effect your card in any way...about the closest thing that could would be refresh and a monitor is usually higher than a TV's anyway.

The only other thing would have maybe have been a PSU/overclocking issue, but your problem lasted longer than those usually do.
