Help building a two handed sword build for a noob!
Hello,
So I'm fairly new to the game and I was about to fly right through Acts 1-4 but once I got to Act 5 things started getting.......dicy for me to where I couldn't kill stuff as fast and I was relying on nothing but life vamp to keep me alive in almost every battle. www.poeurl.com/bUHD Here's a link to my current skill Tree in hopes someone can help me correct what I did wrong. I feel as though I'm doing something wrong with this build. If that link doesn't work then here's another one! www.poeurl.com/bUHB **Note** I'm trying to work with a dualist and ascend into a slayer! Please help when able to! Last bumped on May 25, 2018, 11:01:07 AM

1)1300 hp at 50 lvl... its too low for melee build, get more hp from a tree and more hp from items
2)resists 14/20/46... get 75% of every, not less, then 60% 3)you needn't so many lifesteal nodes 4)get another gems, yours are bunch of.... (for a full physical build try cleave(or lacerate) + maim + melee physical damage + brutality + multistrike + Ruthless) all of this gems can be found in 4 act NPC 5)finish 1st Labyrinth Last edited by Uoykai#2092 on May 23, 2018, 10:19:33 PM

he told you the most important details, so I will not repeat the same.
Always have a look at your item´s level, with the chance to craft yourself some rare items, there is no need to wear blue items. You loose some stats that could have helped you. There are some setup things you should think about, like having a curse running. This can be done by blasphemy or with a curse on hit combo. At level 38+ it is time for a second life combination like everyone is using. How about cast when damage taken with enfeeble/any curse, imortal call, really important must have and phase run or recall minions to you or other gems with a high level increase duration? As long you can handle the mana reserve you can use an aura to push your attack speed or increase your life regeneration. And a big advise not use too many different skills, like gems that have a different looking but in the end do the same. There should be a skill for the big trashies and another skill for the high single damage. In your case one for attack melee and the other for attack melee AOE. Life, Life and resistances, this is what everyone will tell you after finishing the core game´s questline. 75% resist to each element is must have. Life at least 4,5 thousand HP pool or you will die in the cruel lab. When your are doing the quests always try to do the normal lab before finishing act4, because at two moments your resistances need to get higher, same with cruel lab, try before ending act9. Have a look at some build guides. You do not need to copy paste them, but it would help to see, what are all player doing same, what have their builds in common, why do the bind this gem to that support gem, while it is in a setup for even other skill gem. And Wiki is your friend. |

Vagan is your good friend while leveling with melee weapons. He offers cheap added phys damage craft straight from lvl 2. Your sword has open prefix (unless your phys damage mod is combination of two prefixes) so its an ideal candidate for that.

Thank you for the responces, though like I said I am fairly new to the game and trying to grasp the concept of all this information is a bit overwhelming. Pretty much is there a way to dumb down this information? Also, would it be better for me to restart and go from there or is there a way for me to work with what I have now and just make it better? I want to be able to make this work as best as possible! If any one has any solutions to this I'd appreciate the advise! I'm not trying to ask a whole lot just trying to understand all this information is the only thing. Please help someone who'se just barely understanding the game itself!

Honestly, this is your first build. Play it and learn from it. First thing you should do is find a better weapon. With that weapon act 5 will definitely be tougher. If your not solo self found go into the market place and get a two handed sword / axe / mace closer to your level. I can guarantee you will find one for less then an Alchemy orb. Just make sure to click the button to only show people online. Sometimes people just leave stuff up forever.
Other then that have fun with it. Heck if you like the concept theory craft it in something like Path of Building and find a way to make it work. Following pre set builds can be fun, I never played that way though. Still working out the kinks of my Frenzy only dualist. Been playing one every league I've been able to be in since closed beta. Have a look at other players characters and their used skill and support gems. Then have a closer look at their trees and use the search function. You want a two handed sword build, so beginn at poe planner to look for the nodes that increase the weapon´s damage, then look for nodes that increase two handed weapons damage, then search for melee nodes what also would make it stronger. Combine this with all nodes you can still reach about life and resistances and you will see, this looks like a tree of a player, who uses 2H sword build.
Then look for guides for specific skills you want to play and put it all together. when you did this all, you will have learned a lot about PoE. |

Just to add a little bit here.
Pay attention to what is going on around you. Try and learn some of the basics with what you can see, as this gets compounded in difficulty later. If you die a fair bit, don't worry too too much about it. While there is a 5% Death penalty per death, that can be overcome very quickly at such an early level. Everyone's, and I do mean EVERYONE's, first real character sucked big floppy donkey d***. Since this is the first toon that you have gotten past level 26 I think it was, just go with the flow. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but at the same time, the wiki is also a good resource. You may spend a bit more time reading, but do go there and look around when you don't understand something. You got some good advice. One little thing I want to add: change your boots asap! Get some decent rares with movespeed - first priority - then life and some resists. The ones you linked are ok for the first few lvl only, you should have found better ones in act2 at the very latest..

As you level for melee, don't commit to specific weapon type on skill tree too early as you want to use whatever decent 2-h you can find until you are ready to commit later. For instance, if I found this axe below in a couple levels, I'd rather use that one than most swords.
Spoiler
On the other hand, you can easily find a Terminus Est to trade for I'm sure. Right at your level. https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/List_of_unique_swords So you want to pay attention to when upgrading is a good idea and know when items are increasing in tier around you as you level up.
