raise spectre shield

does a level 21 raise spectre have it's own shield or does it just simply benifet more from the discipline skill gem?

AFAIK no Spectres are considered to have shields on their own, even if the visual model of the monster appears to be carrying a shield. You can give your minions stats from your shield using the Necromantic Aegis keystone passive.

I am not exactly sure what you are asking about Discipline; its effect does not depend on the level of the minion gem or stats of the minion at all. Discipline simply grants all allies the same flat amount of ES (and recharge rate).

pretty sure he is asking if any Spectres come with their own energy shield already, or if they get more benefit from discipline then other minions.

A level 21 Raise Spectre gem will give the spectre 2% more Energy Shield.

If the spectre's monster type does not have an innate energy shield, then it won't get one from the Raise Spectre gem. 2% more of nothing is still nothing.

If the spectre's monster type does have an innate energy shield (such as bearded shamans or flame sentinels, for example), then that energy shield will be 2% stronger.

An Energy Shield provided to the spectre via the Discipline aura should also be 2% stronger. So if you have a level 21 Discipline, the spectre would receive 225 ES instead of 221 ES.

In practice the extra 2% simply don't matter. There are many ways to give minions multiples of their base life, plus regeneration, but only very few ways to give them a better energy shield. As a result, minions survive on the basis of their massive health pool and regeneration, while their energy shield is a marginal factor at best. Additionally, the minion AI does not know how to disengage from a fight to replenish their energy shield - so either you continually disrupt the fight, convocate them back to you, and wait for their shields to replenish, or you simply accept the fact that energy shield does not help them a lot.

I haven't done a lot of testing with different spectres though, so if I missed something, please shout. :) Perhaps there's a spectre type with a really high base energy shield that could benefit really well from discipline, so that the extra 2% bonus from Raise Spectre might matter ... but I doubt it.
