I've noticed this over the years with some of my friends list. They are like "I need a new gun"

I don't think this phrase/certain word is related to all eastern EU people, nor it's wide spread and used by many.
More likely your friend list consists of people of certain nationality, and in their own country this word may be treated as a synonym of a weapon, on a general basis. This is a buff © 2016

I'm European. I play with mostly Europeans. And I've never heard about this. This can't be a "thing". I refuse to believe it. I refuse to believe that you've heard more than 2 players calling a in-game weapon "a gun".
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

My guess would be that a "gun", while meaning exactly the same as "firearm", is percieved to be a more general term for "everything that shoots". And younger people with basic english knowledge are confusing the word gun with the even more general word weapon.

Why do people who have English as their second (or third...) language sometimes use the wrong word when speaking in English? A gun is a common example of a weapon, so they might get confused between the two words, or use it as a replacement if they can't think of the word "weapon".

According to my knowledge in eastern EU languages, basically slavic, "a gun" is typically strictly used to describe a pistol or revolver.
Anglo-saxons use it in broader and more general terms. This is a buff © 2016 The Experts ™ 2017 Last edited by torturo#7228 on Mar 24, 2018, 1:13:22 PM

It's a form of slang in their native language, and it is usually used in MMOs.

Never heard anyone use the word gun for a weapon in this game but everyday i see people say weird things like "i dropped a kaom's heart" or "i dropped an exalted orb" I believe they must mean looted or picked up or i fear insanity has finally claimed me.
