3.2, FPS drops to single-digit levels, unplayable

You know the drill. I came back to this game after a while, and now performance is worse than it has ever been.
Yes, I know, my computer is shit. But I remember creating my first character in Perandus League and the game ran fine. The performance just keeps going down hill starting from 2.3. I tried all the tweaks in production_config.ini, and I tried all the launch options. I just want to make this post to remind GGG that this is a very real problem. Game optimization is bad, and it's not getting better for low end machines. Specs: Intel core i3 4005U 1.7 GHz Intel HD 4400 RAM 4GB HDD 7200 RPM This thread has been automatically archived. And you tried dynamic res? Does that even work with the 4400?
I don't know if there is much that can be done to get "acceptable" fps with an 4400 with all the added gfx effects the last couple of years. I think that the only realistic way forward is to try to find a better computer sadly. |

I hear you man, I also play on a low end machine. Sadly, game optimization is nonexistent.
Some tips that can help: -Use the DirectX 9 client and disable shadows. This will improve your frame rate a lot. -Use the lowest possible resolution. In fact, add a custom resolution appropriate for your aspect ratio (for example, I am using 4:3 monitor and run the game at 640x480). For custom resolutions with an Intel Graphics Driver see: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005540/graphics-drivers.html -Disable engine multithreading. It is really buggy since 3.2 and causes a lot of problems (check the various threads in Technical Support). -I know you said you tried the launch options. I am posting this in case someone else with similiar problems reads this thread. The two most relevant launch options when using an HDD are --noasync --nopreload https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Launch_options This will cause the game to load most of the resources at your loading screen (NO WAY you say, load resources while loading, what madness is this?) and not while playing. Dynamic loading is not really optimized and unless you have a really fast SSD, its better to not use it. Note that some content still gets loaded dynamically (those include things that can't get loaded prior to encountering them, for example exiles from boxes. Also, for some reason, most of the new content is loaded dynamically - Elder, Liches etc). -Another tip regarding HDDs, partition your HDD into at least two parts. After formating, the first partition you make should be around 50GB. It will be located on the outer edge of the HDD spindle. This is where read/write speed is fastest. Use that for your OS and programs that use the HDD a lot (games). This will improve your PoE loading times and performance a bit. You should be able to get around 40-50 fps most of the time with drops to 15-20 fps. There will still be drops to single digit fps, mostly when the game dynamically loads content. Elder fight is a really good example. Last edited by Iceforce#3796 on Mar 16, 2018, 9:12:47 AM

" you dont have a grapics card... i3 lol 4gb ram? ![]() its a wonder that thing starts POE..... I dont see any any key!

" I have tried dyanmic res - which would force me to use DX11. And although that gives me more stable fps, it still drops to under 20 fps because of the shadows. DX11 could've been a great solution if GGG let us disable shadows. |

" I have tried these steps. I've even set the resolution to 640x360, and I get like 80 fps, which is amazing. The problem is, it just won't stay stable. It drops to below 10 fps, even in towns with no people and then goes back up to 80 fps again constantly. (I'd rather have 30 fps but stable). This is why I doubt it's a graphics settings problem and definitely something behind the scenes. The DX9 client is basically screwed now. Disabling multithreading doesn't help sadly. |

" While it may seem unrelated, does forcing the network into predictive mode improve this situation at all? Also, does switching to "none" for the loot filter help the situation at all? (I'd, uh, turn off notifications for drops while that was in effect, if I were you, just to avoid the million labels causing a performance drop. Goal is to eliminate "loot filter" as a possible cause.) |

" I have similiar spec except for gfx card (ATI hD 5470 or somthing). You can try using little program called HiAlgo Boost https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/7l91oa/guide_how_to_play_with_dynamic_resolution_on/?st=jeudidlj&sh=bb15408c It basicaly does dynamic resolution on dx9 client. I am using it since 3.1 and can say it is realy helpfull. |

" Tried it, problem didn't go away... Thanks for helping though |

" Your totaly right! forgot about forced shadows on DX11. Yeah that would kill it for you. |
