How and when to use Decay correctly
So I looked at the thing raiz did back in 3.0 and I started wondering.
What reasons would I have to use decay in a build or to build around it? Sometimes in PoB it gets recommended as a support gem and I usually have my doubts but what do I know? Its a support gem, which means I can use a high level decay to support a low level active gem, right? So if I were to use any kind of moving main skill setup (like cyclone or flicker or whatever)in a 2H weapon and then lvl.1 cwdt + ?BV? + Decay and three support gems in my chest, could that be enough for general mapping? Sure Id need something for singletarget but if this was actually worth anything people would do it, right? Last bumped on Mar 2, 2018, 8:24:00 AM

" Hmmm, maybe if you have two six links, you could set up a Movement Skill with Decay and scale it. The problem with CWDT is that you have to be hit first, which is not ideal for mapping. |

Decay is situational. With some DoT/poison/chaos builds, it can potentially add pretty good DPS.
You don't work around it, result is mediocre at best. But just get the net DPS gain if setup allows it. It scales off DoT/chaos, so builds focused around these would like to have it if they can. Also, it's a shame that decay support gem doesn't stack with essence of delirium. Would be great. This is a buff © 2016

" Yeah..even with enough duration on a bv I doubt it would be reliable and scolds would be kind of a waste. I see, so much for that thought then. Maybe Ill find a niche for it in a blight build or something. |

For a high level decay, low level CWDT combo you need some *good* DoT scaling, otherwise the support is just 'meh'.
Even with my ED trickster I found other supports to be more useful for my DoT, but for some other build that uses a lot of DoT having decay in CWDT makes a decent supplemental damage souce - tho since CWDT is, at its core, purely defensive you may be leaving yourself open without the 'almost mandatory' Immortal Call pop. It's *not* a gem useful for AFK builds since they seldom add a lot of DoT scaling. Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive. Patch Notes 3.19: Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment. |
