Impossible to play ping spikes, please help.
|
First things first: This only happens in "busy hours" usually on weekends and in evenings from 7-11pm. The screen freezes when ping reaches 800 and above. It's impossible to play.
Usually what I will do is connect to US servers, and I'll have a 200 ping, but atleast its a steady one. but now even that doesnt work anymore for me. In shared maps (cities) my ping spikes to 800 and sometimes above 1,000. but thats not the issue. In my hideout, the ping is usually 80 (normal) and it wont change from that. When I open a map and I enter, sometimes its 80 (normal) and I finish the map in one go, But if I go out of the map and back in (or die), 99% of the time, the ping will begin spiking and when it reaches above 800, the game freezes, sometimes for 5 seconds, sometimes for 10 minutes (I actually waited). But most of the times, I'll just load the map, and uppon first entarance, I'll get these terrible ping spikes from 80 to 1,000+. Please help. |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | WinMTR statistics | | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | Broadcom.Home - 0 | 938 | 938 | 0 | 0 | 14 | 0 | | Samantha.ccc.net.il - 0 | 938 | 938 | 7 | 9 | 52 | 8 | | 100.127.255.65 - 4 | 810 | 779 | 0 | 8 | 28 | 13 | | 109.226.0.170 - 0 | 938 | 938 | 7 | 9 | 75 | 9 | | xe-8-1-2-990.edge5.London1.Level3.net - 1 | 934 | 933 | 73 | 75 | 106 | 75 | | ae-1-3111.edge4.London1.Level3.net - 1 | 934 | 933 | 73 | 75 | 111 | 76 | | SOFTLAYER-T.edge4.London1.Level3.net - 1 | 934 | 933 | 74 | 75 | 114 | 76 | | ae6.cbs01.tg01.lon01.networklayer.com - 43 | 346 | 198 | 75 | 76 | 82 | 76 | | ae0.cbs01.xn01.fra01.networklayer.com - 0 | 938 | 938 | 75 | 76 | 107 | 76 | | ae15.dar01.fra02.networklayer.com - 0 | 938 | 938 | 74 | 76 | 172 | 76 | | po1.fcr01a.fra02.networklayer.com - 1 | 934 | 933 | 74 | 75 | 112 | 76 | | fra.login.pathofexile.com - 0 | 938 | 938 | 75 | 75 | 115 | 75 | |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider Edit: Image from frankfurt (because the forum messses it up) ![]() One more from London: ![]() Last edited by AlexSkyy#3083 on Feb 3, 2018, 10:13:21 AM Last bumped on Feb 3, 2018, 3:05:39 PM

There is nothing too odd in your traces. Did you take them while having your issues? If not, do so please. That way we can try and see where something is afoot.

" Thank you so much for the reply, any input is helpful. so thank you. Now, just incase there was something wrong with my original scan, I just did another one. I was mapping (again, once I first enter the map, its 40% gonna be normal, 60% gonna spike) The map was normal and I entered Abyssal Depths, this time the instance hit the unlucky 60% and I started spiking, for the purpose of testing I didnt quit like I usually do and after 5 minutes of frozen screen, once it unfroze I died. Anyway, here are the screenshots, hopefuly it'll be sufficiant information this time around: ![]() ![]() ![]() Final Result: ![]() Once agian, thank you for looking into this Last edited by AlexSkyy#3083 on Feb 3, 2018, 1:44:08 PM

Hrrmm, nothing too odd in that trace, yet again.
What are your PC Specs? Have you tried turning off multithreading if using an Intel chip? Do you have any gameplay recording software running like ReLive for AMD etc (If so, turn it off). Also, read this thread and give it a whirl:https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1678815 The next time you get a spikey instance like that, go into your client.txt file located in your POE install directory/logs folder. Look for the IP address of that zone you were just in (it's sorted by time stamp, so make note of what time you go into the zone for reference). Run a MTR trace to that specific IP address and post up the results for ua. " Hi! I've checked my specs using 3rd party software: ![]() In addition, I disabled the multithreading based on an article on PC Mag https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2422874,00.asp And I tried adding --noasync ![]() Sadly, none of these resolved the issue. Once again, I tried joining an instance, "The Quay" to test. Here are the results: ![]() ![]() Final result: ![]() Uhhh, Im so desprate. Do you think changing ISP's will help in any shape or form? Once again thank you for the help. it means a lot. |

I don't know. The spikes in ping, that are over 100 at least, are starting at your 5th hop. Changing ISPs would certainly change the path that your traffic takes, but who knows if that will be any better - could even be worse.
At this point, I would email techsupport@grindinggear.com and see if GGG can assist. There may be something on the return trip with your traffic that we can't see with MTR. Include pretty much everything you have in this thread as they will ask for it all anyway...that and it will give them a good base to start with. I wish there was something obvious here to tell you what to do to fix it, but there isn't. :( "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. " Okay, thank you. As a last resort I'll try changing my ISP tomorrow morning. But even tho you couldnt resolve it based on the information I could provide, I still would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for even looking into this. You're the real MVP! huge thanks! |
