Atziri's Axe is better for clearing, because it has +range and you can use Herald of Ash. Starforge has massive QoL - it has life and you can go for Blood Magic, because you don't really need Auras (you can still use Impresence and get access to Vulnerablity). You can use Haemophilia gloves to compensate for lower clear speed with Starforge. IIRC Starforge is also more damage, but they are pretty close.

Both work for Cyclone, both will have similar clearspeed in a Resolute Technique Cyclone build.
Disfavor maybe a bit more damage because of Hatred+Herald of Ash.
Starforge more tanky because +100 life and you can go Bloodmagic (+35% life for few skillpoints)

What's the real difference between the two?

Starforge allows you to go crit in late-lategame (character level 90+, pretty expensive gear) because it's a sword. At this point, it will crush Disfavor in terms of single target DpS.

Disfavor allows you to use Sunder instead of Cyclone, the best "melee" skill there is.

ty , but why sword can play crit ?
they both have the same basa crit (5%) ?
Swords have some extra crit nodes on the Ranger side that's about it. Starforge specifically disables elemental damage and we have a new Elder jewel that grants base crit when using Hatred which would be a wasted aura in Starforge builds so that makes the weapon not so good for going crit.

The main difference is in the ability to use elemental damage. Starforge is better if you want to use phys-based damage over time (bleed, poison), curses or defensive auras like Grace, Determination or Arctic Armor - or Blood Magic for higher life.
Disfavor is better if you prefer higher upfront damage from extra elemental damage (Hatred, Herald of Ash, Taste of Hate and some other mods combined with weapon elemental damage rolls on gear).

You can do some pretty impressive crit heavy strike shenanigans with starforge:

5% base crit means you'll have ~50% crit chance in lategame, that's easily enough to scale the DpS super high.

Ideally, you have two starforges in weapon swap, so you have cyclone for trash, heavy strike for bosses:

(Cyclone starforge needs no 6L, you can kill any trash in this game on a 4L)

...and I wouldn't try the same with a Disfavor.
For an axe, there's no real reason to travel into the ranger/shadow area of the tree.

You don't need the Elder jewel to make that work.
Yes, you're missing a new option, but the old build still does millions of DpS single target.

It's super satisfying to just delete guardians with full frontal, old school melee damage.
