Recover Life and Gain Life on Block

Guys, what is the difference between these 2?
What mod is more reliable? If recover means "overtime" — over what exactly time?
When I see 5% — does it mean base life or real life pool after all buffs?

If I have 5k life — 5% is 250, right? So another mod which is "gain life" has max roll about 100, whats the point of adding it? I don't understand all these things, please help )

A) Life gain when block is absolute life (base item mod)

B) Recover %Max life when block is % of Max life (Shaped mod)
e.g If you have 6k life, 5% max life will return 300hp

B provide more bang for the buck at end game when you have alot of HP.

Both can be rolled on a shield which give highest return of life recovered on block, but there are also many good suffix contesting same slot.

There is a map mod which says "no recovery of life"... life gain on hit isn't recovery.

life gain on hit indeed is recovery..

map mod affects recovery rate, which means it affects only recovery that happens over time. instant recover has no rate (its instant) thus remains unaffected by this mod
