melee splash and sunder

What happens when I use a Sunder socketed in Kitavas Feast - that supports socketed gems with lvl 25 melee splash?

Wiki says "Melee Splash does not work with melee skills that already have an area of effect" -
But does that mean that only the splash portion doesnt apply
or does it also mean that the less damage from melee splash doesnt take effect?

Would be nice to know before I invest 50c in a Kitavas Feast.
