Ping spikes every 8-10 seconds
Hi all,
I am playing on the Australian gateway and I have been noticing significant ping spikes every 8-10 seconds, it jumps from roughly 40 to anywhere between 150 and 300 from the numbers I have caught. I have had no other issues with any other games, my ping is rock solid everywhere else and I haven't changed anything on my end. I have run a WinMTR trace available here on pastebin https://pastebin.com/6ATYPR5r I would appreciate any assistance. Thanks! I have been getting the same issue since the expansion, played on mayhem and it wasnt an issue.
The only time it went away was after 11pm. This is not just happening to me, all my friend have the same issue. My average is 60 but it spikes to 180-300 and it makes my screen stutter. FPS is a solid 170FPS Nfi why it doesnt show the ip range before the au.login.pathofexile.com |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | WinMTR statistics | | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | No response from host - 100 | 521 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | c4.52.01a8.ip4.static.sl-reverse.com - 7 | 520 | 488 | 59 | 60 | 65 | 60 | |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| WinMTR - 0.8. " Thanks for posting the WinMTR log. While your internet traffic is transferred through iiNet's network we see a small amount of packet loss creep in, along with spikes just over 300 ms. After your traffic has left iiNet's network and moved on to an IX controlled by the Western Australian Internet Association, and later GGG's ISP SoftLayer, we do not see any appreciably worse packet loss or latency spikes. Average pings seem fine across the board. Looking like iiNet are the ones responsible here. " Version 0.8 of WinMTR is no longer functioning properly. Please download v0.92 of WinMTR from here. " Not seeing any dropped packets or latency spikes on your log, however three pings per node is sufficiently minimal that an intermittent issue may not affect any of the tracert's echo requests. Please post a WinMTR log, created while having problems (here's a guide). " Hey bud, As per the above, v0.8 of WinMTR isn't really reliable anymore. Could you download v0.92 and use that if you've any more problems? Imagine the lack of introspection that would be required to spend your spare time telling people they’ve posted in the wrong section of some company's forum, only to then try accusing someone else of brown-nosing.

" Interesting. So from the start you’ve pings as high as 270 ms. That’s not ideal, but... well, I’ve seen worse. I think your primary problem is packet loss. As your traffic leaves iiNet’s network and reaches an IX operated by the Western Australian Internet Association we see some packets being dropped. That continues all the way to the server, so it’s real packet loss and not just traffic management on one or two hops. Nine times out of ten, Aussies I see having problems are iiNet customers connecting through that specific WAIA hop. Those two really don’t seem to like each other... Unfortunately you’ll probably get both of them insisting the other is at fault - and that’s assuming you bother reaching out to WAIA and they even respond to someone who isn’t a customer of theirs. If you e-mail techsupport@grindinggear.com they can take the log and pass it on, but as the problem is outside of their host’s network, they can’t grumble at them and threaten to take their business elsewhere if it isn’t fixed quickly. You can complain to iiNet yourself and show them the log, but I imagine speaking to an ISP’s tier 1 support team isn’t your idea of fun. Sorry mate. You can try, but it’s probably just a case of waiting until it’s fixed. :/ Imagine the lack of introspection that would be required to spend your spare time telling people they’ve posted in the wrong section of some company's forum, only to then try accusing someone else of brown-nosing.

With Internode as well. Having similar symptoms.
At first, thought it was more CVC congestion, but testing the route at a time of day with no congestion yields similar performance: |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | WinMTR statistics | | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | 192.168.0.1 - 0 | 94 | 94 | 0 | 0 | 6 | 0 | | lo0.bras2.syd7.on.ii.net - 0 | 94 | 94 | 4 | 6 | 18 | 7 | | be12.cr2.syd2.on.ii.net - 0 | 94 | 94 | 4 | 6 | 19 | 9 | | be-50.cr2.syd7.on.ii.net - 0 | 94 | 94 | 16 | 18 | 27 | 17 | | ae14.br1.syd7.on.ii.net - 0 | 94 | 94 | 16 | 21 | 75 | 17 | | ae2.cr1.mel4.on.ii.net - 0 | 94 | 94 | 16 | 19 | 27 | 22 | | ae0.cr1.mel8.on.ii.net - 0 | 94 | 94 | 16 | 18 | 31 | 18 | | 218.100.78.56 - 3 | 86 | 84 | 17 | 19 | 25 | 21 | | ae5.dar02.mel01.networklayer.com - 7 | 74 | 69 | 18 | 19 | 27 | 23 | | po2.fcr01b.mel01.networklayer.com - 6 | 78 | 74 | 0 | 21 | 33 | 21 | | c4.52.01a8.ip4.static.sl-reverse.com - 4 | 82 | 79 | 18 | 20 | 28 | 22 | |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider Symptom ingame is fair lag spikes. " Much improved locally. Still the same issue berween iiNet and WAIA. More conclusive now. :) " Ah, well - not being a customer of iiNet’s would complicate things even more for you. Occasionally the connection between two ISPs will need new infrastructure to increase the capacity and they’ll both ignore the problem in the hope the other will cave and pay for the upgrade. Because why be a CEO if you can’t behave like a 12 year old... That’s just my cynical speculation, though. Maybe it’s a legit problem and someone is working on it. " Yup, same thing here. I had a stutter problem too. It was laggy about a half of playtime. Now it appears to have all gone by switching to in-game VSync from RivaTuner version of it. I switched it to RivaTuner since 3.1.0 update broke in-game VSync. Apparently GGG fixed it.

Infamous 218.100.78.56
It is allocated to Western Australian Internet Association Already saw this IP, even at year-old "lags!!" threads "Stable" packet loss and\or ping spikes there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Remember, suffering is convenient.
That is why many people prefer it. Happiness requires effort. |
