Abyss Jewels are kinda underwhelming for DoT spells.

I'm leveling as Scorching Ray, and so far I'm pretty disappointed with the mod pool for Abyss Jewels when it comes to DoT spells.

Your only hope is to get the right %DoT mod for your weapon setup + the %damage if you've killed recently. There's no %elemental, chaos, or spell damage, just added damage.

Attacks and spells that hit can get multiple added damage mods, crit mods, a bunch of conditional mods, etc... making it much easier to find useful/interesting Abyss Jewels for these builds.

And it isn't just number mods, there's stuff like %phys added as fire if you've crit recently, or chance to hinder on spell hit. But there's nothing like that for DoT. Why not %increased DoT duration if you've killed with DoT recently, or something?

With Scorching Ray, I haven't found an Abyss Jewel worth using since like lvl 12. And I just keep getting envious of other builds every time I ID a new one.

Pretty much all jewels I got are minions and staff damage and DOT and ofc ~25HP

If anything, ALL the mods are insanely underwhelming.
For example, get 60 jewels with "Staff damage" and "Minion damage" and "when you haven't been hit". Most mods are underwhelming, to say the least.

As a Summoner I am happy with the jewels, but as Warchief or Sunder the lack of good combos is making them only slightly better than normal Jewels for ONE reason: you can socket them in the tree AND/OR the special belt.

Most of the DoT mods I've found have been for 2H, which is cool if you're doing Caustic Arrow, I guess.

I dropped the jewel in this belt early on and have yet to find anything even close for my essence drainer: .

Not like she needs the help though... Essence drain is really good, just not a million dps single target skill.
