Crit marauder: is it doable?

Is it possible to create a marauder with a "good" amount of critical chance (for melee skills)? If so, would it be best to go ranger side or shadow side?

It depends on skill/weapon but VP is on the way.
Yes. There is melee crit near marauder. What matters more is weapon choice - does it have high base crit and are you willing to invest in ICS and or a diamond flask.

go with hegemony's era. many good crit staff nodes + the ones near marauder nephalim mentioned and you can use abyssus to get a great crit multiplier.

Goal would be to proc Elemental Overload *most* of the time, not sure how much crit chance that would require. 15-20% crit chance top? (no matter the skill/weapon)
For Elemental Overload many people would use something like Orb of Storms + Critical Strikes Support or Cast on Damage Taken + Ball Lightning + Critical Strikes Support.
No additional crit investment needed.

I'm trying something silly with an Ice Crash character (that's working surprisingly well so far) and he's got ~7% crit on weapon, ~ 3 aps and EO has ~95% uptime (sometimes it falls off between packs). Generally speaking, crit chance * aps * 8 should be over 100 for most builds, so it's usually going to be up all the time when mapping with only a little bit of ramp required for bosses, depending on how often you have to move about instead of attacking.

I don't know if I would call EO builds crit builds. EO Marauder is definitely possible. Orb of Storms re-rolls crit per zap, which makes it really good for any build requiring crits to activate an effect; depending on your number of links, stick it on with Increased Critical Strikes, Faster Casting, and Power Charge on Critical, and you could probably get 100% EO uptime without taking any crit from the passive tree.
