Ghost build (perm onslaught/phasing and immunity)
I have played PoE since early closed beta... this game came at a time when Diablo 3 had just ruined my hopes for a action rpg to have complexity and freedom to create. The first Diablo consumed much of my childhood... the gritty and atmospheric game was so addictive and fun to play, back then I even started to make odd builds. The game could be steamrolled with a mage in minutes but I decided to make a spell casting rogue(the weakest char in the game) and loved every painstaking minute of it.
Diablo 2 gets released and its even better than the first, as the game progresses they include rune words and sets and the community starts to experiment with odd builds again. I remember seeing a guy run around as a melee Sorc build having somehow found or traded for the most ridiculously expensive items in the game, it was insanely cool! ...So I find this little game (at the time) which has atmosphere, interesting builds and I was hooked. The years have passed now and instead of losing steam or getting old this game has never stopped evolving, never stopped being challenging or better yet never stopped being anything but the most interesting game I've played. Ghost build ![]() This build started to form in my mind when I saw the raider class passive Quartz Infusion which gives the user "you have phasing while you have onslaught" so I then thought how cool would it be to have perm phasing... but now I needed to get perm onslaught to get this effect... and there was no way. I logged on and saw releases of new uniques and scrolled through them, always eager to see whats new and then it was there... the item that could solve my problem for a perm phase char... Ahn's Heritage "you have onslaught while at max endurance charges" ... this doesn't seem like perm upkeep of onslaught but there happens to be two things that can chance that... the shield also has a -1 endurance charge stat, we just need to reduce it again by two and we have 0/0 endurance charges...meaning max charges! this is achieved with a jewel called Fragility, which seems useless until you have the right idea in mind. So now we have a char that has perm upkeep on phasing and onslaught... we have the look down for a ghost char... but now we need to think of what a ghost would have as stats, at first I thought to make a energy shield dodge char... but these don't work well together. And then it hit me, immunity... a ghost doesn't need to dodge attacks its immune to them. it fits with the next ascendancy passive I choose Avatar of the Veil "Immune to Elemental Status Ailments while Phasing" given our perm upkeep on phasing we are now immune to burn, chill, freeze and shock permanently! now we need to look at getting more immunity... Hinekora's Sight grants immunity to blind(ghosts don't have eyes so this makes sense) Star of Wraeclast gives immunity to silence(ghosts don't have mouths either) now we on a roll both can be achieved by using the first amulet and getting a corrupted jewel with immunity to silence... or using the second amulet with The Dark Seer scepter. another big immunity given by items is to bleeding(ghosts don't bleed!), Death's Door crusader boots offer this and fit with the theme... only problem is it grants +1 endurance charge... so to use them we need another fragility. Making this char a Chaos Inoculation build seals the ghost vibe here... more immunity to chaos and poison damage and along with Ghost Reaver we are a fully fledged ghost. stun is a big problem for ES builds... there are a few items that grant immunity to it but they are mostly amulets and boots, items we already need for this ghost build. so I opt for an unusual way of dealing with it... near the start of the ranger passive tree there is a node that grants 20% chance to avoid being stunned Heart of Oak, this doesn't seem enough but we have a great enchantment available on boots that I think will solve this "80% chance to Avoid being Stunned if you've Killed Recently" with our passive that's 100% So lets tally that up... we have perm phasing/onslaught immune to chaos/poison immune to bleed immune to blind immune to silence immune to stun with a few potions of warding gives us immunity and removal of curses.. so our ghost is now only worried about physical damage and elemental damage... the build will need high armor and as much elemental resist as possible, our shield gives us +3% max resistances which is a good start. the ultimate item would be Incandescent Heart, this makes us only take 75% elemental damage given that the 25% converted we are immune to and saves us passive points for not taking arcane vision which is needed for a ES build. Finally the choice of actually doing damage comes...
