Glacial Cascade. Need clarification over the mechanics.

First of all I want to thank all the exiles that are taking the time to read this.
Straight to the point:
Glacial cascade: flat phy dmg + converted phy into cold.
So.
I wanted to use this for forever, that being said I have no idea how this skill works at all.
It is in fact a spell that uses phy dmg.
But here's my head scratch: so a weapon that gives phy dmg does 0 for this skill.
On the other hand Herald of ash / Hatred provides bonuses.
I'm building an Inquisitor so I want to have crit and everything else involved.
As far as I see spell dmg scales it, but I'm asking is there any way to scale the phy dmg too?
I tryed nodes in the tree, they don't seem to do anything ( example phy dmg with 2h weapons ).

So if someone can explain how to scale this skill better and what would a good 6L be ( considering I want to go crit? ).

EDIT:
One more thing to note: flat phy on gear does nothing for the skill BUT phy % on ( lets say a belt ) Do scale the skill
forgot to say was planing on: phy to lightning, conc effect, faster casting, spell echo and.. ?

Thank you in advance

Spells do not deal damage 'with Weapons' - that's why they have their own base Damage. The Shadow has a couple unconditional Physical Damage modifiers around; a starting cluster plus a cluster between CI and GR. These would apply to Glacial Cascade, because they don't rely on a specific weapon to be used.

Flat Physical Damage is always specific to Attacks. Glacial Cascade is a Spell, and thus won't benefit from these Attack-specific modifiers. Increased Physical Damage from a Rustic Sash is not specific to Attacks, and as such will apply to GC's Spell Damage.

With a bit of Physical to Cold Conversion (ex. Hrimburn gloves), you get full benefit from Cold Damage and more notably Cold Penetration modifiers. That's what I would go for, personally. Pen Supports are hella good.

Thank you for clarification now that I think about it, makes perfect sense.
Inquisitor has 100% spell penetration on critical, this is why I do not need cold pene or full cold conversion. With phy to lightning I get a portion of the dmg as lightning possibly some extra benefit with shock.

One more question if you do not mind, currently running Hatred and herald of ash, do you feel there would be a better dmg replacement for either?

Almost forgot, what do you think about "phy projectile dmg support" ?
Will this work? It is counted as a projectile but gmp for example doesnt work on it.. so will this?
I'm still low lvl can't test this out sry

GC isn´t considered as projectile so it won´t work.
