why are items in standard so expensive?

Everything I compare from legacy to standard is very expensive (2x-10x more expensive). Do not enough people play standard to create the supply of items?

I think the problem is not the suply but the inflation. There is A LOT more currency in std economy. There are ppl out there with thousands and thousands of exalteds so good/wanted stuff is much more expensive.

It's not about supply. It's just inflation. Standard has been running for 4.5 years and many of its more dedicated players have amassed huge fortunes. They're happy to pay any price, and don't sell cheap because it's literally not worth their time.

Also, a lot of temp-league-only players will use Standard as a testing ground, and not really care about the price of items because they have no interest in their wealth in Standard.

Inflation yo.

Typical reaction to increase in volume of currency, is prices of everything increase accordingly. Both IRL and in games (See: Post WW1 Germany and its issue with hyperinflation for example)

Standard has a LOT of currency in it. Since, not only is it the persistent game mode, so it has been around for years rather than Leagues few month durations, but also you have every league character being sent there at the end of the league causing influxes of currency and you also have people who don't play leagues or play non-league characters consistently also amassing currency over time.

Just how economies roll.

Lack of supply is only ever really an issue at the beginning of a league, so prices for things in the first week can be higher than usual, but for the most part Standard and any league beyond the first week its generally inflation pushing prices up, as more and more currency gets collected, with few actual sinks to dispose of it in.

Standard is filled with stupidly overpriced items that almost never will sell.

So as a player that has only played in legacy league, what do I do about the crazy prices when moved to standard?

You play the next temporary league, most likely. It's very hard to build significant wealth in Standard unless you already have a lot of currency. And the temp leagues are generally more fun anyway.

Well there's a few things I'd say to that;

• You might want to experience the story from Act 1 to Act 10 in one go.
• You can play a character in Standard and another in Harbinger league.
• A month from now you might start to get bored only playing one build.
• Your buying power will be greater in the challenge league.

I usually play one character in Standard and 1-2 in the challenge league; it keeps things fresh imo.
