Changes in config file get reset on game startup

Hello,

I am trying to lower the texture quality settings through the config file.
I have done this before on a different system and it worked.

On my current system it does not. The config file gets overwritten by the ingame settings (it does not reset completely, as some others have experienced it).

Things I tried:
-reinstalling the game
-deleting the config file to let the game create a new one
-following the instructions on page 2 in this thread (by the user frymaster): https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/24466/page/2

The instructions are at the bottom of the page and as follows:
"
as a workaround:

Create "Path of Exile" folder in "My Documents\My Games\". Go into this folder in file explorer, click on the address bar, and make a note of the full address

Go to your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile" folder.

You should see a half-baked attempt at mimicking your redirected documents folder structure there. So for example, my documents are at "\\VORKOSIGAN\folders$\frymaster\My Documents" and I had a folder structure that went "C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile\VORKOSIGAN\folders$\frymaster\My Documents\My Games\Path of Exile"

Move this to the root of the drive (so in my case I end up with "C:\VORKOSIGAN\folders$\frymaster\My Documents\My Games\Path of Exile" and delete the empty "Path of Exile" directory

Open up a command prompt and navigate to the "My Games" folder of this new structure.

Type:

"
mklink /d "Path of Exile" "that address you made a note of in step one"

(the quotes are important)

What that does is make a symlink (symbolic link, a special marker that tells the file system to go somewhere else) so that when the failcode tries to access your documents in totally the wrong place, it'll instead get sent on to the proper place. Tested and working for me, but it's a workaround, not a fix.

My game is installed here: D:\Path of Exile.

My config file is found here: C:\Users\MyName\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile.

Frymaster mentiones a mimicked folder structure, which I did not have. I followed the instructions anyway.

I realise that I might have made a mistake when following frymaster's instructions.
The result of what I did was an empty folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games called Path of Exile, which is linked to the folder where my config file is in. There was a folder called Path of Exile in there, which I have removed. This was necessary to create the then empty and linked folder.

This did not change anything, sadly.

Does anybody have any other idea what I could try to solve the problem? Or maybe how to really use the workaround with a clear idea behind it? I was just messing around, basically. I do not have any understanding of what frymaster actually meant by his words. I just tried to follow the instructions as closely as possible.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Same problem here ..!

UP!!!
try to set the config file to read only this way it only reads the configs but you cant change them in game so if you want to change options you gotta change them from the file.
